Liverpool value the Colombian at €100m. |
According to Bild , the deal to buy Diaz is not only difficult to come true but also poses many financial and tactical risks for Bayern. Bayern is said to have reached a personal agreement with Díaz, offering a contract until 2029 with an option to extend until 2030 and a significant salary increase for the player.
At Liverpool, Diaz earns just £55,000 a week, much less than Mohamed Salah or Darwin Núñez. This situation is similar to the case of Sadio Mané, who left Liverpool for Bayern in 2022 for a higher salary.
However, the Mané deal is a cautionary tale for Bayern. Mané, despite being a star at Liverpool, has failed to integrate at Bayern and has disrupted the team's wage structure. According to Forbes , the high-paying signing of Díaz could undermine Max Eberl's efforts to create a more balanced wage structure following Sané's departure.
Signing Diaz also carries other risks for Bayern Munich. At 28, Diaz is only one year younger than Kingsley Coman. With Liverpool's asking price of €100 million, Diaz is not a long-term investment, especially when Bayern are looking to rejuvenate their squad.
Jamal Musiala's serious injury forced them to look not only for a left-sided midfielder but also for a short-term replacement for Musiala. Diaz, while excellent, is not suited to this role, as he mainly plays on the left wing and is incapable of playing as a No. 10 or a centre-forward.
Spending big money on Diaz could see Bayern repeat the mistakes of Hasan Salihamidzic and Oliver Kahn, who signed Mané on a high-profile deal without solving the squad's structural problems.
