Previously, baby V. was stabbed in the eye socket by a broken piece of a bicycle brake lever. He was transferred to the City Children's Hospital for emergency treatment in a state of foreign object penetrating the eye socket - skull base, multiple fractures of the eye socket, broken lower eyelid, brain contusion, and brain hemorrhage.
At the hospital, after examination, the doctors assessed this as a case of complex brain trauma, eye socket with high risk of brain damage... so they turned on the inter-hospital red alert with Ho Chi Minh City Eye Hospital. Doctors from both hospitals agreed on the intervention method, a team from the Eye Hospital was sent to coordinate and support.
The patient had a team of doctors from 2 hospitals perform craniotomy, remove crushed brain tissue, blood clots, broken bone fragments, expand the ceiling of the eye socket to remove the foreign object (25 cm long) from the eye socket; at the same time, suture the conjunctiva and suture the outer corner and eyelid margin.
After surgery, the baby's health condition was temporarily stable, and he continued to receive intensive care at the Department of Surgical Resuscitation, mechanical ventilation, blood transfusion, antibiotics, sedation, pain relief, and active anti-cerebral edema. Up to now, after 2 weeks, the baby has made a miraculous recovery, to the joy of the doctors and family.
