On June 12, a source from Children's Hospital 2 (HCMC) said that the hospital had just admitted a 5-year-old female patient with a brain injury caused by a mini gas tank explosion.
Accordingly, on the evening of June 10, the patient was transferred from Binh Phuoc Hospital to Children's Hospital 2 in a coma, with pale skin and mucous membranes, a head wound with heavy bleeding, and brain damage.
Skull fragments removed from the patient's brain
As a result of the examination and imaging, the doctors recorded a penetrating wound from the top of the head to the occipital region, with cerebral hemorrhage. In particular, there were many small skull fragments in the brain parenchyma. The patient underwent emergency surgery at night and was then transferred to the hospital's Intensive Care and Anti-Poison Department for monitoring.
The patient's family said that the child was playing behind the house when they suddenly heard a loud explosion. At the scene, the family discovered the child lying on the ground with a bleeding head wound, next to an exploded mini gas tank and took the child to a local hospital.
Doctors at Children's Hospital 2 added that there have been many similar accidents. Therefore, doctors recommend that parents pay attention to flammable and explosive items, especially mini gas cylinders. These items should be kept out of reach and children's behavior should be monitored at all times to ensure safety, especially during summer vacation.
