Jude Bellingham has surgery. |
Real Madrid have been dealt a blow as star midfielder Bellingham is set to undergo surgery on his left shoulder this week to correct a problem that has plagued him for the past two seasons. According to The Athletic , the injury will keep Bellingham out of action for at least three months.
The 22-year-old star has been playing with a problem in his left shoulder since the 2023/24 season. Despite the difficulties, Bellingham has continued to play regularly, and has also helped Real Madrid reach the semi-finals of the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup.
However, he has been wearing a shoulder sling to limit pain and avoid aggravating the injury, especially in challenging situations. The news that Bellingham needed surgery was announced at the end of the 2024/25 season, but Real Madrid decided to delay it until after the Club World Cup, which they hope to win.
Bellingham played all six games at the US tournament, scoring in a 3-0 group stage win over Pachuca and assisting Vinicius Junior in a win over Red Bull Salzburg. However, he failed to make an impact in the semi-final, as Real Madrid lost 4-0 to European champions Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) in New Jersey.
Bellingham's form in the knockout stages has been hampered by a shoulder injury, which has limited his involvement and reduced his effectiveness. Bellingham is almost certain to miss the first eight La Liga games, including clashes with Mallorca, Real Sociedad, and Atletico Madrid, as well as the opening few Champions League games.
Bellingham's absence will force Alonso to rely on midfielders such as Eduardo Camavinga, Aurélien Tchouaméni, and young talent Arda Güler.
