On October 22, Ziyech joined Wydad Casablanca on a free transfer, ending his unemployment period since leaving Al-Duhail (Qatar).
According to journalist Fabrizio Romano, the two sides have reached an agreement and Ziyech will soon make his debut for the top team in the Moroccan league. Currently, Wydad is ranked second in the table, 1 point behind the leading team Maghreb de Fès but still has 1 match in hand.
Many fans expressed regret for Ziyech, saying this was a setback in the career of the former Champions League winner. However, many fans also expressed joy that Ziyech was able to return to play in his homeland, thereby raising hopes of qualifying for the 2026 World Cup.
Ziyech, 32, was once considered one of the most technically gifted players in Europe. He was a mainstay of the Morocco team, alongside Achraf Hakimi and Sofyan Amrabat.
Ziyech's career flourished at Ajax, where he played a key role in helping the team reach the semi-finals of the 2018/19 Champions League. His impressive performances paved the way for a £40 million deal with Chelsea in the summer of 2020.
In his first two seasons at Stamford Bridge, Ziyech won the Champions League, the UEFA Super Cup and the FIFA Club World Cup. He was nicknamed “The Wizard” by fans for his creative play and signature curling shots.
After losing form and leaving Chelsea, Ziyech joined Galatasaray in 2023 and then had a short spell with Al-Duhail.
