New coach of Thailand national team debuts, talks about World Cup goals

(Dan Tri) - Coach Anthony Hudson officially debuted with the Thai national team this afternoon (October 23). The English coach announced that he will help the team from the land of the golden pagoda win a ticket to the Asian Cup 2027, then the World Cup.

Just two days after firing coach Masatada Ishii (Japanese), the Football Association of Thailand (FAT) officially introduced a new coach, Mr. Anthony Hudson (British).

Before taking the position of head coach of the Thai national team, Mr. Hudson was the Technical Director (GĐKT) of FAT. Before that, he led BG Pathum United Club (Thailand) earlier this year, was the coach of Al Arabi SC Club (Qatar) in 2024, Al Markhiya Club (Qatar) in 2023.

At the national team level, Mr. Anthony Hudson was the interim coach of the US team in 2023, coach of the New Zealand team from 2014 to 2017, and coach of the Bahrain team from 2013 to 2014.

Together with the New Zealand team, Mr. Anthony Hudson won the Oceania championship in 2016.

After being officially introduced as the coach of the Thai national team this afternoon, the English coach said: “I have a passion for the Thai national team, I love this country. I say that not because today, in this room, is full of Thai reporters. I say that because I have a dream of bringing the Thai national team to the final round of the Asian Cup 2027”.

“The Thai national team has been criticized a lot recently, but I know that all Thai people care about the national team. I want to make the fans proud, I want the players to be proud when wearing the national team shirt,” added Mr. Anthony Hudson.

One of the issues that the media and Thai football world are interested in is the possibility of the Thai team participating in the 2030 World Cup with a new coach.

Regarding this issue, coach Anthony Hudson did not shy away: "I believe that the Thai team can make it to the World Cup finals. To achieve that goal, we need to compete more. Thai football needs to develop a source of young players for the World Cup."

“I have a different style from coach Masatada Ishii, but it would be crazy to completely change the achievements that Mr. Ishii has made for the Thai team.

Instead, I will change the national team step by step, develop the team step by step. So, I will not use the word revolution with the Thai team", the English coach still said.
