- Bang Mac is one of the communes with the largest anise area in the province. In recent years, local people have actively expanded the area of ​​anise grown in an organic direction. Thereby, households have gradually increased their income and developed their economy.

According to statistics of Bang Mac Commune People's Committee, currently, the area of ​​star anise in the commune is nearly 1,700 hectares. Of which, over 1,300 hectares are being harvested, scattered in 15/15 villages of the commune with more than 1,800 households growing. This is the main crop of the commune, helping people develop the economy .

Mr. Trieu Van Viet, Khau Tao village, Bang Mac commune said: My family has planted about 0.5 hectares of star anise since 1994. Previously, due to not fertilizing or taking care of the star anise forest, the star anise yield was very low, only about 1 ton/ha. Since 2021, with the guidance of professional staff at all levels and support from the commune government, my family has focused on taking care of the star anise forest using organic methods. Accordingly, the family has implemented many measures such as applying organic fertilizer periodically once a year, clearing and weeding the star anise forest... After only 1 year, my family's star anise forest has improved visibly. The star anise canopy has grown strongly, and the yield has also reached 2.5 - 3 tons/ha.

Not only Mr. Viet's family, many households in the commune also participate in organic star anise care, bringing economic efficiency. It is known that 2021 is the first year that Bang Mac commune has implemented a model of growing and caring for star anise using organic methods with about 120 hectares. After only 1 year of care, the organic star anise area has achieved outstanding productivity compared to star anise forests cultivated using traditional methods. From the end of 2021 up to now, Bang Mac Commune People's Committee has coordinated with specialized agencies to guide and support local people to expand the area of ​​organic star anise.

Accordingly, every year, the commune coordinates with specialized agencies to organize training and propaganda for star anise growing households 1-2 times. The training content is mainly about the advantages of improving the productivity and quality of star anise when growing organically. At the same time, the Commune People's Committee has propagated and mobilized households to establish cooperatives to synchronize the process of planting and caring for star anise. Thanks to that, the area of ​​organic star anise in the area is increasingly expanding. Specifically, up to now, the whole commune has nearly 500 hectares of organic star anise with 560 participating households. Of which, the above households have established 8 cooperatives to produce organic star anise. According to the assessment of the Commune People's Committee, the output of organic star anise compared to star anise grown in the traditional way has increased by 40-60%.

In addition, every year, the commune coordinates with the Chi Lang Regional Forest Protection Department to implement programs to support star anise seedlings for local people. For example, since the beginning of 2025, local people have been supported with nearly 38,000 star anise seedlings. At the same time, local star anise growing households also benefit from support programs on microbial fertilizers, star anise containers, etc. Also in 2025, the commune was supported with 800 million VND from the National Target Program on New Rural Development to implement a production linkage model according to the value chain, contributing to ensuring output for star anise products of local people.

Mr. Hoang Van Trung, Vice Chairman of Bang Mac Commune People's Committee, said: In the period of 2025 - 2030, the commune has a plan to replace old anise forests over 50 years old with a total area of ​​over 318 hectares. Thereby, contributing to improving the productivity and quality of anise trees so that people can continue to develop the economy. In the coming time, the commune will continue to promote propaganda, guidance, and support people to expand the area of ​​organic anise, helping people develop a sustainable anise economy.

From the actual results, it is shown that the conversion to organic farming is opening up a sustainable direction for Bang Mac star anise. When productivity, quality and output are guaranteed, people have more motivation to expand the area and increase income.
