Ms. T. has heart disease and recently had a mitral valve replacement surgery. Her health is poor and her menstrual bleeding lasted for nearly 20 days, causing her body to become exhausted due to severe anemia and high white blood cell count. Her family is a farmer with an unstable income, so all the treatment costs are a heavy burden for Ms. T.
While waiting for the examination, a woman approached her, claiming to be “a relative of Ms. T”, promising to help with the hospital admission procedures quickly. Believing her, she gave that person 5 million VND - the small amount of money she had with her, but the subject disappeared and never returned.
Realizing that she had been cheated out of all her money, Ms. T. was speechless. Having lost her money, not yet been examined, and being sick, she almost collapsed.
As soon as they learned of the incident, the staff of the Examination Department and the Social Work Department of the Central Maternity Hospital proactively coordinated with the hospital's security team to collect information. At the same time, medical staff mobilized donations and supported Ms. T. with nearly 8 million VND.
Knowing that Ms. T. had a history of heart disease, the Central Maternity Hospital sent an ambulance to take her to Hanoi Heart Hospital for examination and consultation before transferring her back to the hospital for safe admission.
At the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, social workers encouraged Ms. T. and her child, and assisted with hospital admission procedures. Free meals were provided on the same day, and hospital fee reduction applications were also processed promptly to help share some of the financial burden for the patient.
On the same day, doctors from the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology consulted and ordered the patient to be hospitalized immediately to treat uterine polyps - the cause of prolonged menstrual bleeding and severe anemia.
According to the leader of the Central Maternity Hospital, after the hospital launched a campaign to combat the problem of "brokers", the situation of soliciting patients in front of the hospital gate has significantly decreased.
However, there are still some subjects operating secretly between 4:45 and 5:30 a.m. at gate 43 Trang Thi, gate 56 Hai Ba Trung, Trieu Quoc Dat-Trang Thi intersection and Quan Su-Trang Thi intersection.
The hospital warned that these subjects often pretend to be technology drivers or acquaintances of doctors, approaching patients with false information such as: 'the hospital is under repair, not working', 'the hospital is not accepting new patients', 'good doctors have gone to private clinics'... to lure patients to less reputable facilities.
To ensure the safety and benefits of patients, the Central Maternity Hospital has arranged information desks located outside gate 56 Hai Ba Trung, gate 1 Trieu Quoc Dat and next to gate 43 Trang Thi, with medical staff on duty to support and broadcast warnings.
The hospital recommends that people coming for examination should not listen to the solicitation or enticement of strangers; go directly to the information desks with medical staff for support.
If you detect any acts of soliciting or soliciting patients, please contact: Tran Hung Dao Ward Police (0243 9424 717), Hang Bong Ward Police (0243 8257 632) or notify hospital medical staff.
