With an impressive victory at Bung Karno Stadium (Jakarta, Indonesia), U23 Vietnam not only successfully defended the championship but also made history by winning the U23 Southeast Asian Championship 3 times in a row.
After the final match of the 2025 Southeast Asian U23 tournament, the World Football Federation (FIFA) gave special praise to the Vietnam U23 team. On its Fanpage with more than 63 million followers, FIFA World Cup wrote: "Great job, boys."
The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) shared an emotional status on social media: "What could be sweeter than the victory of U23 Vietnam over U23 Indonesia right at Gelora Bung Karno!!! Congratulations to coach Kim Sang-sik and his team."
Indonesian media admitted that U23 Vietnam played a tight and effective match.
Bola newspaper wrote: “U23 Indonesia controlled the ball a lot but lacked sharpness. U23 Vietnam defended firmly and took advantage of the only opportunity to score.”
Indonesia's Liputan6 also showed respect for their opponents: "Despite having to play under the pressure of tens of thousands of Bung Karno spectators, Vietnam did not waver. Their players showed discipline, steadfastness and organization throughout the match."
CNN Indonesia said: "U23 Vietnam made Indonesia helpless. They played disciplined, counterattacked sharply and maintained the game until the last minute."
Meanwhile, the Daily News commented: “A standard performance helped Vietnam defeat U23 Indonesia”. This newspaper believes that U23 Vietnam only needs one goal and tight play to defeat the host U23 Indonesia.
In Thailand, the media also expressed their admiration. The famous sports site Siam Sport headlined: "U23 Vietnam wins 3 consecutive championships".
"The 'Golden Stars' team defeated host U23 Indonesia with a narrow score of 1-0 thanks to a goal by Nguyen Cong Phuong, thereby winning the 2025 Southeast Asian U23 Championship and creating a miracle with 3 consecutive championships," Siam Sport wrote.
Korean media, the homeland of coach Kim Sang-sik, also simultaneously reported praise for the historic victory.
Sport News emphasized: “Coach Kim Sang-sik's magic worked when U23 Vietnam defeated Indonesia to win the U23 Southeast Asian Championship, marking the third consecutive championship in the regional tournament.”
Chosun newspaper published the headline: "U23 Vietnam won the U23 Southeast Asian Championship for the third consecutive time, the second title of coach Kim Sang-sik".
The newspaper emphasized: "Vietnam U23 extended its record of winning the most matches at the Southeast Asian U23 Championship since 2019, with an unbeaten streak of up to 13 matches."
Also according to Chosun, coach Kim Sang-sik made history by becoming the first coach to win titles in both the Southeast Asian U23 Championship and the ASEAN Cup in the same year.
The 2025 Southeast Asian U23 Championship will be a great motivation for Vietnam U23 to aim for two more important goals in the rest of 2025: the 2026 Asian U23 qualifiers and the 33rd SEA Games.
