The Quang Ninh Department of Health has identified 2025 as a breakthrough year in the development of specialized healthcare, especially the implementation of organ transplantation techniques at the provincial level. Vietnam - Sweden Uong Bi Hospital has prepared for organ transplantation, first of all kidney transplantation.
Dr. Vu Trung Kien, Head of Planning and Synthesis Department (Vietnam - Sweden Uong Bi Hospital) said: “The hospital has prepared human resources including more than 50 doctors, nurses, and technicians who have completed training certificates on kidney transplantation from Viet Duc Friendship Hospital. The infrastructure has been upgraded such as: operating room, recovery area, post-transplant treatment area and fully purchased equipment and machinery.
In addition, professional processes such as monitoring, care, patient selection, procedures before, during and after kidney transplant have been completed. The assessment records on human resources, equipment and procedures have been sent to the Ministry of Health for assessment and licensing.
"Currently, Vietnam - Sweden Uong Bi Hospital has nearly 200 patients on dialysis, but the source of donated organs from brain-dead people is very rare. In addition to professional preparation, the Hospital has promoted propaganda and mobilization of organ donation from brain-dead people." , Dr. Kien added.

Vietnam - Sweden Uong Bi Hospital is getting closer to performing its first kidney transplant, opening up hope for patients with chronic kidney failure in Quang Ninh province. |
Patient Nguyen Tuan Anh (born in 1984, Uong Bi City, Quang Ninh Province) shared: “I currently undergo dialysis 3 times a week, and my monthly dialysis cost is about 7-8 million VND. When I learned that Vietnam - Sweden Uong Bi Hospital would perform organ transplants in 2025, I registered and wanted to participate in the pioneering organ transplant program at the Hospital.
Through research, I learned that the cost of kidney transplant treatment at a higher level is about 1.3 - 1.8 billion VND for all expenses, including travel, accommodation and treatment... If the transplant is performed at a local hospital, it will help reduce costs for the patient. At the same time, anti-rejection treatment is more timely when located near a medical facility."
Kidney transplantation is an effective treatment method that helps patients recover their health, prolong their life, return to work and significantly reduce long-term treatment costs. Therefore, the implementation of kidney transplantation techniques at provincial hospitals is an urgent need. With careful preparations, Vietnam - Sweden Uong Bi Hospital is getting closer to performing the first kidney transplant, opening up hope for patients with chronic kidney failure in Quang Ninh province.
