Patient NTH (27 years old, Dong Trieu City) suffered from end-stage renal failure. Faced with her child’s serious health condition, the biological mother volunteered to donate her kidney. After nearly 3 weeks of completing professional evaluation, testing, legal documents… the match was determined.
The surgery lasted more than 3 hours, performed by a team of doctors from Vietnam - Sweden Uong Bi Hospital with the support of leading experts from Viet Duc Friendship Hospital. The transplant process went smoothly, the transplanted kidney excreted well, and there was urine immediately after the ureter was connected. Currently, the health of both the donor and the recipient is stable.
Previously, the first two transplants in April 2025 were successful, the patients were stable and discharged from the hospital.
The 3 successful kidney transplants are not only a professional step forward, but also a clear demonstration of the high technical mastery of the medical team of Vietnam - Sweden Uong Bi Hospital in particular and the medical team of Quang Ninh province in general.

Dr. Tran Anh Cuong - Director of the Hospital shared: "Right from the beginning, our biggest wish was to be able to make kidney transplants a routine procedure to serve the people of our province and that has gradually become a reality."
This is a solid step of Vietnam - Sweden Uong Bi Hospital on the near journey to become a special-class hospital in the West of Quang Ninh province and the Northeast region of the country, realizing the goal of "on-site medical service - for community health".
Previously, kidney transplantation was a specialized technique only available at end-line hospitals in Hanoi or Ho Chi Minh City. But now, thanks to thorough investment in facilities, human resources and technology transfer, the medical team in Quang Ninh is gradually catching up with the modern medical achievements of the whole country.
