Before her death in 705, Wu Zetian returned the throne to the descendants of the Li family. At the same time, she wanted to be buried as the empress of Emperor Gaozong of Tang, Li Zhi, in the same mausoleum.

As the resting place of emperors, Qianling Mausoleum has become a target for many tomb robbers. For more than 1,000 years, many tomb robbers have come to Qianling Mausoleum and tried every way to break in to steal valuable burial treasures. However, all tomb robbers have been unable to penetrate Qianling Mausoleum.

Thanks to that, Qianling became one of the few Tang Dynasty tombs that remained intact over time. This also made the public curious about why this tomb was inviolable.

Faced with this mystery, archaeologists went to Qianling to measure, survey and analyze the structure of the tomb. Thanks to that, they discovered that the wall in Qianling was built with extremely solid bricks and stones.

Instead of using lime mortar as a binder, the gaps between the large rocks were filled with tin by the tomb building team. This special structure makes Qianling become solid and sturdy.

Next, Qianling Mausoleum is located in the middle of the mountainside. That mountain acts as a "protective armor" to help keep the mausoleum intact for thousands of years. Thanks to that, tomb robbers cannot find the entrance to Qianling Mausoleum.
