On April 18, information from Can Tho University of Medicine and Pharmacy Hospital said that the unit had just performed surgery to remove one testicle of a patient due to being kicked by a cow.
Previously, Mr. THT (27 years old, living in Binh Thuy district, Can Tho city) was kicked in the genital area by the animal while feeding the cow. Mr. T. was then hospitalized at Can Tho University of Medicine and Pharmacy Hospital with swelling, bruising, and pain in the right scrotum.
Ultrasound images showed that the patient had right testicular trauma, tear, hydrocele and increased white blood cell count.
Doctors at the Urology Center, Can Tho University of Medicine and Pharmacy Hospital, ordered emergency surgery. Seeing that the right testicle was purple, torn, crushed, and had a lot of blood clots around it, the doctors decided to remove it. The surgery was successful, and the patient has been discharged and scheduled for a follow-up visit as directed.
Dr. Tran Huynh Tuan, Urology Center, Can Tho University of Medicine and Pharmacy Hospital, said that if surgery is not performed promptly, the risk of widespread necrosis will require a larger area to be removed. When one testicle is removed, the patient can still get married and have children naturally. However, the ability to produce and store sperm will be less than normal.
