Flooded with fake accounts, trolling the brand

Over the past week, many social media platforms have been flooded with fake accounts of fast food brands operating in Vietnam. This situation is prominent on the TikTok channel.

Initially, many accounts had the Jollibee logo as their profile picture, but KFC as their display name, and then left many joking comments. Following that, a series of other accounts appeared with the names of these two fast food brands, along with joking phrases behind them.

For example, the accounts “KFC on the moon”, “KFC under the sea”, “Jollibee heaven”, “Jollibee hell”… Besides, there are accounts that include brand names with locations such as Binh Thanh, Ca Mau , Kien Giang…

At first, these accounts were meant to be funny, creating excitement for many people. But then things got more extreme. Some accounts left comments like “KFC is full of chickens, eat Jollibee”, or vice versa…

On TikTok, keywords like “KFC and Jollibee funny teasing each other”, “KFC vs Jollibee” or “KFC and Jollibee incident” also entered the trending search list. This effect even spread to other fried chicken brands such as Lotte, Popeyes, Texas, McDonald… and many people jokingly called it “fried chicken war”.

However, in addition to the response from a segment of users, many opinions call for stopping the promotion of brand impersonation. Some people emphasize that the spread of fake content will affect the online environment, and at the same time recommend that the community should proactively report violating accounts to protect transparency in the digital space.

Jollibee and KFC rush to warn

Faced with the uncontrollable flow of information, today, May 10, Jollibee officially spoke out. “Recently, we have noticed many fake Jollibee brand accounts appearing on social media, especially TikTok.

These accounts illegally used Jollibee’s name and image, spreading false and misleading information and negatively affecting the customer experience. All official information is only published on channels that have been blue-ticked and are under the direct management of the brand,” the company affirmed.

Meanwhile, KFC Vietnam also said it has recorded many cases of impersonating the brand as well as restaurant branches on social media platforms, especially Facebook and TikTok.

Incorrect and substandard content, messages and images are being spread more and more widely, causing serious misunderstandings for customers.

“With more than 27 years of working with Vietnamese customers and more than 230 restaurants nationwide, KFC always puts customer experience first, through strict content censorship and clear, accurate communication.

Therefore, statements from unofficial accounts not only affect the reputation and image of the brand, but also negatively affect the experience of customers who always trust and accompany KFC," the company said.

Therefore, the company recommends that customers carefully check the source of the channel and verify the posted content before receiving or sharing. In case further verification is needed, you can contact KFC through official channels for the fastest and earliest support.

Innocently support fake accounts

Responding to the warning posts from KFC and Jollibee, many social media users left comments expressing their amusement at the fake accounts, viewing them as a source of entertainment rather than a worrying threat.

An account named Minh Sang commented: “It’s so much fun to fake it!”. User Ashley Vu wrote: “No one is bothered by it, and it’s even become a trend, it’s highly entertaining!”.

Many people even admitted that even though they knew it was fake, they continued to interact because they felt it was “more fun than harmful”. “We know it’s fake, but it’s fun, so just keep it that way!”, “We know it’s fake, so just pretend it’s okay, we’re having so much fun!”.

However, many others also expressed concern that if the situation is not controlled, it could potentially have a major impact on the brand's reputation.
