28/29 students of class 9A of Hanoi - Amsterdam High School for the Gifted passed the entrance exams to specialized math, IT, physics, and chemistry classes of the High School for the Gifted in Natural Sciences . In class 9A, there was one student who did not take the exam because he had other wishes.
Among them, Dang Hai Son was the valedictorian of the IT class, with a total score of 27.5/30, and 10 points in the math exam for the IT class. Nguyen Hai Dang was the top student in the physics class, with a score of 26/30, and 9.25 points in the physics exam.
Do Manh Hung passed both the math and physics exams. The entire 9A class had a total of 29 students pass the entrance exam to the High School for Natural Sciences; specifically: 16 students passed the math exam, 6 students passed the physics exam, 4 students passed the chemistry exam, and 3 students passed the IT exam.
Mr. Nguyen Dac Thang - homeroom teacher of class 9A - is very happy and proud of the results that the students have achieved, however, the news of admission that the students reported was within his prediction.
In the 2024-2025 school year, at the city-level excellent student competition, class 9A won 6 first prizes, 7 second prizes and 2 third prizes. Among them, Nguyen Hai Dang was the valedictorian of the city's excellent student competition in physics, and Vu Quang Dung was the valedictorian of the city's excellent student competition in math.
Teach good students how to compete healthily
Mr. Thang said that during his time as the students' homeroom teacher in their last two years of high school, he focused on helping them develop in a balanced and comprehensive way.
He builds a diverse extracurricular program to help teachers and students bond, helping students gain more experience and maturity. In particular, he focuses on humanitarian volunteer activities so that students can see how lucky they are in life, so that they know how to make more efforts.

As the homeroom teacher of a math class with all students being excellent, competitive, and eager to learn and prove themselves in competitions for gifted students, Mr. Thang also has to focus on helping students understand healthy competition.
To avoid the fierce competition that damages student friendships, Mr. Thang always reminds his students: "When you step out into the big world, you will have to face many big opponents.
So, while we are still studying together in this same class, let's love each other, work hard to study and improve together to achieve success. Let's build a united collective and together achieve that goal."
He always works with his students to set short-term and long-term goals so that they can strive to study in the right direction. Before the 9th grade class of the 2021-2025 school year, Mr. Thang was the homeroom teacher of 4 other classes that also passed 100% of the entrance exams to specialized schools.
People often imagine that excellent students like this will "bury their heads in books", study "forgetting to eat and sleep" to achieve high results in important exams, but that is not what Mr. Thang wants to see in his students.
The teacher always proactively arranges priority goals with students at each time to create effective strategies. The ultimate goal is that through each school year, both teachers and students will complete many goals, achieve the expected results, but do not need to endure constant stress due to the large amount of knowledge and lessons.
Good games will cause "headaches" in their own way.
Being the head teacher of a math class also causes Mr. Thang to experience his own "headaches". According to Mr. Thang, the age of 8-9 grade students is currently a very complex age of development, it can be said that it is the age that causes the most difficulties and challenges for parents and teachers.
This reality requires families and schools to accompany, closely follow, and actively support children, but also to be skillful and tactful.

With 12 years of experience as a teacher, he understands that this age group has strong changes in psychology, emotions, and outlook on life... According to Mr. Thang, good students will cause "headaches" in the style of... good students.
Students often have innovative thinking, are eager to learn, and constantly update themselves, so teachers need to monitor them closely to be able to proactively support them. For example, many students learn advanced knowledge on their own and like to prove themselves by solving problems at a level beyond the knowledge they are learning.
Even though the solution is not wrong, if you take it to the exam, you will have serious problems and may not even get points.
Being a teacher of a class of excellent students with strong personalities, even a bit “stubborn”, this poses many challenges for the teacher. He has to keep up with the rich knowledge of the students.
To "conquer" the students, make them love and respect him, and listen to his advice, Mr. Thang must constantly improve his professional capacity and life skills.
Excellent students often show their inclinations early on, most of them have impressive thinking abilities and strong personalities, but in reality, they are still immature. Teacher Thang realizes that excellent students will have their own specific problems, requiring teachers to closely follow them to grasp them promptly and provide guidance.
Mr. Thang's motto as a homeroom teacher is to always let students be free to be themselves, but everything must take place within the allowed framework. Students can freely express themselves, but when they see signs of "going outside the framework", Mr. Thang will have to correct them.
According to Mr. Thang, the better students are at studying, the more "stubborn" they tend to be. Sometimes, he has to accept that they will fail in things that are not too important, so that they will understand how "stubborn" they are, and from there they will learn from their mistakes to correct themselves.
Strategy to turn yourself into an "idol" for your students
As a male teacher, Mr. Thang sees himself as having many advantages and advantages to fulfill the responsibilities of a homeroom teacher. He uses the strategy of turning himself into an “idol” of his students, taking advantage of the idol mentality that is common in teenagers, to conquer his students.
According to teacher Thang, once students are conquered, they will be very excited to listen to the teacher's instructions and guidance.

This is a strategy that Mr. Thang has successfully applied over many years as a homeroom teacher. He has found that once a teacher is tactful enough to make himself loved, even "idoled" by his students, any problems that arise will be quickly and easily resolved, because at this point, the students will be afraid of making their "idols" sad or disappointed in them.
They will even try harder to make their "idols" happy and proud of them. However, to become the "idols" of a group of excellent students is not simple, Mr. Thang must pay attention to building his own style, so that the students are truly attracted and convinced.
For example, if the teacher is confident in his ability to make coffee, he will find an opportunity to demonstrate this skill to his students, so that they can see a different side of him than when he is on the podium. He always aims for a youthful, modern, cheerful, open-minded style, with many talents, knowledge in many fields, and rich in practical experience...
In particular, teachers must constantly update the trends, trends, and hot characters that their students are interested in, in order to truly penetrate the world of their students, creating conditions for understanding and sharing from both sides.
Once you have conquered a student, everything will happen naturally and automatically. At that time, the student will have self-awareness in everything.
If there is a female student in the math class, it is lucky.
Mr. Thang's 9A class for the 2021-2025 school year only has 2 female students, but this is still lucky compared to the whole class having... no female students.

Class 9A has only 2/29 female students (Photo: NVCC).
The teacher shared that specialized math classes often have few female students, but if there are, the female students often have interesting personalities, are quite brave, have solid knowledge, think clearly and coherently, and are very determined in competing in studying and participating in extracurricular activities with the male students in the class.
The friendship between the students is very pure. Having a female student in the class is considered by Mr. Thang to be a blessing, because it will help the math class become more fun, colorful and also “softer”.
Boys in the class will also know how to behave more delicately, tactfully, and be less “naive” in their interactions with the opposite sex. This is especially important when they are about to enter adulthood.
