In the exciting atmosphere of competition to successfully achieve the socio-economic development goals in 2024, speaking at the launching ceremony of production in the early spring of Giap Thin at Nghi Son 2 BOT Thermal Power Plant, Provincial Party Secretary Do Trong Hung emphasized: With sufficient potential and conditions for development, Nghi Son Economic Zone has been selected by the Prime Minister as one of the eight key coastal economic zones of the country to focus on investment and development in the period of 2016 - 2020; in which, prioritizing investment resources to effectively exploit Nghi Son deep-water seaport associated with the development of industries, focusing on petrochemical industry, high-grade steel rolling, mechanical engineering, ship repair and building, electricity industry, construction materials production industry, production and processing of high-quality agriculture, forestry and fishery for export...
Nghi Son 2 BOT Thermal Power Plant is the second largest key industrial project after Nghi Son Refinery and Petrochemical Complex, playing an important "core" role and being the driving force to promote the development of the economic zone, gradually achieving the goal of becoming one of the key coastal industrial - urban - service centers of the country. The plant has a total investment of nearly 2.8 billion USD, including 2 units with a total designed capacity of 1,200 MW, invested by a joint venture of KEPCO (Korea), Marubeni Group (Japan) and Tohuku Electric Company (Japan) in the form of construction - operation - transfer to Vietnam Electricity Group after 25 years of operation. Construction of the plant began in August 2018. Unit 1 was inaugurated on January 10, 2020, and the entire plant was inaugurated and put into commercial operation on July 14, 2022.
Nghi Son 2 BOT Thermal Power Plant is one of the few thermal power plants in Vietnam using ultra-supercritical technology; allowing for optimized use of raw materials and reduced emissions, in accordance with international standards as well as Vietnamese standards. The plant has been put into operation and has supplied 7.8 billion kWh of electricity annually to the national grid, meeting the electricity demand for production, business and people's daily needs; has a strong influence on the economic development of the North Central region and the whole country, providing electricity for the North Central region and the northern provinces and cities, contributing to the goal of ensuring national energy security.

Provincial Party Secretary Do Trong Hung was pleased to know that in 2023, the factory's revenue reached 14,440.7 billion VND; paid 1,164.03 billion VND to the budget; ensured regular jobs for more than 311 workers with an average income of 25.4 million VND/person/month. In addition to production and business activities, from 2018 to present, the company has actively participated in social security activities, environmental protection and community activities, contributing to the overall development of the locality. In particular, the company has participated in implementing many projects to improve infrastructure, school facilities, medical stations, health check-ups, and support livelihood development for people in Hai Ha commune, Hai Thuong ward and Tinh Hai ward (Nghi Son town) with a total cost of more than 26 billion VND.

On behalf of the provincial leaders, Provincial Party Secretary Do Trong Hung acknowledged and commended the efforts of the board of directors, team of experts and all employees of Nghi Son 2 Power Company Limited over the past time and emphasized: The launching ceremony of production and business in early 2024 of Nghi Son 2 BOT Thermal Power Plant is a testament to the close, practical and effective cooperation between the Government of Vietnam and the Government of Japan and the Government of Korea; is the result of the close attention and direction of the Government, the Prime Minister, the Ministry of Industry and Trade, relevant ministries and branches and Thanh Hoa province, the determination and high efforts of investors Marubeni - Kepco - Tohuku, and the consensus and support of local people.
