A shocking rift has broken out within the Polish national team , during preparations for the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
On June 8, Robert Lewandowski officially announced his withdrawal from the Polish national team after a conflict with head coach Michal Probierz.

Mr. Probierz decided to strip Lewandowski of the captain's armband and give it to midfielder Piotr Zielinski, who is currently playing for Inter Milan.
Lewandowski posted on social network X: “Due to the current situation and having lost confidence in the Polish national team coach, I have decided to stop playing for the national team as long as he is the coach.
I hope to continue playing for the best fans in the world .
The departure of Lewandowski – who has 158 caps and 85 goals for the national team – comes shortly after the Polish Football Association (PZPN) announced its decision to choose a new captain.
“According to the decision of coach Michal Probierz, Piotr Zieliński has become the new captain of the Polish national team,” PZPN announced.
PZPN also emphasized: "The coach personally announced his decision to Robert Lewandowski, the whole team and the coaching staff."
In response, Lewandowski immediately announced his withdrawal, right at the time the Polish team was competing in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
Poland currently tops Group C of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers in Europe, with 6 points after 2 wins. The “White Eagles” will visit Finland in the next match (1:45 a.m. June 11).
It is not yet clear whether this is just a temporary decision due to disappointment with the coach's choice or an irreparable rift.
