According to statistics, the average high school graduation math score in 2025 is 4.78 (down 1.67 points compared to last year); up to 635,102 candidates scored below 5 points, accounting for more than 56% of candidates in the entire exam (last year, the number of exams below 5 points accounted for only more than 17%).

Notably, this year there were only more than 137,000 exams scoring 7 points or more, accounting for more than 12%, while last year this number was more than 473,000 exams, accounting for more than 45%.

With English as an elective subject, although the number of candidates has decreased, only about 1/3 compared to last year, the average score is 5.38, 0.13 points lower than last year. Notably, the number of candidates achieving 7 points or more is only over 15%, down more than 10% compared to last year.

Based on the high school graduation exam score distribution this year, Dr. Le Anh Duc, head of the training department of the National Economics University, said that with the admission method based on high school graduation exam scores in 2025, the average standard score of training institutions will be lower than in 2024.

Especially for combinations with math and English, it can be 2-3 points lower, because the score range of math and English is much lower than in 2024.

Besides, this year, the admission scores of different admission methods must be converted to the equivalent of the 2025 high school graduation exam scores, so they also tend to be relatively lower than in 2024.

For the above reasons, Mr. Duc believes that the admission scores of previous years have very little comparison and reference value for candidates.

"For the National Economics University, admission is based on 4 groups: D01 (math, literature, English); A00 (math, physics, chemistry); A01 (math, physics, English); D07 (math, chemistry, English). Each group includes math, still ensuring relative fairness for candidates.

Candidates with an international English certificate can convert it to a 10-point scale to combine with math and another subject in the above 4 groups (not English) for admission consideration," said Mr. Duc.

From the graduation exam score spectrum this year, many education experts also predict that majors with benchmark scores of 24 and 25 last year may decrease this year. Meanwhile, majors with benchmark scores of 16-18 last year are likely to increase slightly.
