Possessing a handsome appearance, the standard of a "prince", actor Binh An once made his mark with kind and gentle male lead roles. However, recently, he has continuously appeared on the small screen with roles that make viewers "furious" - handsome but bad guys, betraying feelings, interfering in other people's family happiness. From "Girls in the City", "Gara of Happiness" to "Tender Sunny Colors", Binh An is becoming a "familiar and hateful" face of the bad guy role line on Vietnamese television dramas.
Strange "VIP Guest" in "Gentle Sunshine"
In "Dịu dưỡng màu nắng" currently airing on VTV3, Binh An plays the role of "VIP Guest" - the lover of Lan Anh (Luong Thu Trang), wife of Bac (Duy Hung). Although he doesn't appear much, doesn't have a specific name, and doesn't have a clear past, this character is the reason why Lan Anh's family broke up. Even though Lan Anh wants to definitely return to her husband and children, "VIP Guest" still holds on to her and convinces her to leave her husband to be with him.
The climax comes when Bac catches his wife holding hands with her lover – a shock that turns everything upside down. Although only having 10 scenes, Binh An’s role makes the audience “hot-blooded”. On social networks, many people are upset and call him “a handsome but shameless man”.
The actor himself was surprised by the level of public reaction. On his personal page, he wrote: “End of a strange role… 10 scenes. No name… No script reading… No cause - development - result. And I don’t understand why people ‘call my name’ so much. But I’m very happy to have been a part of the film.”
"Happy Garage": Ambitious Boy and Two Loves
Before the role of "VIP Guest", Binh An had caused no less controversy with the character Quan in "Gara Hanh Phuc". As the boyfriend of Son Ca (Quynh Kool), Quan has a gentle and thoughtful appearance, but behind that is practicality and ambition.
Despite being with Son Ca for many years and considering marriage, Quan still accepts to become the lover of his female boss - Cam Khe (Diem Huong) to have a chance to advance. When he wants to stop, Quan is threatened by his lover, forcing him to maintain the wrong relationship. Cam Khe then publicly announces their relationship to pressure Quan, turning him into a "two-faced" person: both in love with Son Ca and secretly having an affair with his boss.
The audience was outraged by the lies of the character Quan. On the film's fanpage, hundreds of comments criticized: "Just looking at his face, you can tell he's a jerk", "Cowardly man", "A relationship for fame and profit"... Some people even turned their hatred towards Binh An himself, forcing him to speak up to explain. He also confided that he was sad when he was judged incorrectly for his role, even though he had mentally prepared himself beforehand.
"Girls in the City": The first "pilot" was heavily criticized
If the role of Quan is a two-faced person, the role of Tung in "Girls in the City" is a true "young pilot" model: having affairs with older women for material benefits.
Tung, a young man from the countryside who came to the city to make a living, was once deeply in love with his girlfriend, but due to difficult economic conditions, he decided to break up. Later, Tung was hired as an assistant by a middle-aged businesswoman named Xuan, who also provided him with money and accommodation, and they gradually developed a love affair. Although living with Xuan, Tung still yearned for his ex-lover, living in conflict and conflict.
This role once severely affected Binh An's image. Many viewers "misconstrued the movie for real life", condemning the actor in real life for his "contempt for his ex-lover" attitude in the movie. He also confided that he was sad when he was judged incorrectly because of the role, even though he had mentally prepared himself beforehand.
In response to negative reactions from the audience, Binh An spoke out on his personal page. He said he had anticipated that the role would cause controversy, but still couldn’t help but feel sad when he was misunderstood.
"Movies are movies and life is life. Don't judge your whole life like that because of a role. That kind of feeling is very bad," the actor shared.
From a pragmatic Tung, a two-faced Quan, to an unnamed “VIP Guest” – Binh An is proving that he is not only handsome but also dares to break away from his safe image to step into challenging roles. And those “hated” roles are sometimes the stepping stones that bring him closer to great opportunities in his acting career.
