Binh Phuoc is considered the capital of cashew trees in Vietnam with a cashew growing area of over 150 thousand hectares, accounting for nearly 50% of the country's cashew area; cashew output is about 170 thousand tons/year, annual export value is over 1 billion dollars, contributing 30-45% of the province's total export turnover. Along with that, Binh Phuoc has formed the largest cashew processing industry in the country with more than 1,400 facilities, cashew processing capacity of 500 thousand tons/year. The cashew industry has contributed to creating regular jobs for more than 50 thousand workers. The cashew processing industry has contributed to a strong transformation of the agricultural production structure, from self-sufficient agriculture to modern agriculture, large-scale commodity production. After processing, cashew products of Binh Phuoc province are exported to over 50 countries in the world such as: EU, USA, Japan, Australia, China..., accounting for about 70% of the export market share of the world cashew industry.
The workshop is an opportunity for the province, together with managers, scientists, farmers, consumers and experts, to re-evaluate the current situation, difficulties and obstacles. in the development of cashew industry. From there, propose scientific solutions to increase the value of cashew products , promote trade promotion activities, advertise products , create conditions for contact and meetings between scientists, businesses and cashew farmers. |
Speaking at the opening of the workshop, Member of the Provincial Party Standing Committee, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Tran Tuyet Minh said: Recognizing the importance and strengths of the cashew industry, in recent times, the Provincial Party Committee, People's Council, and People's Committee have issued many specific policies and guidelines to focus on supporting businesses and people growing cashew. However, in the context of the current development of the domestic and world market economy, the development of cashew trees still faces many difficulties and challenges in many areas such as: Competitiveness of some products; linkage and cooperation in value chain development; linkage with foreign partners with potential markets, linking raw material areas for processing and export; cultivation techniques, transfer of cashew varieties. In particular, cashew trees are currently facing the risk of being affected by natural disasters and climate change, especially unseasonal rains that often occur. As well as competition for raw material areas with other countries in the region and the world.

These are also the issues raised at the workshop for units, experts, scientists, managers and farmers in the cashew industry to contribute ideas and propose solutions to help the Binh Phuoc cashew industry further enhance its value in the coming time.
