Not only is the number of applicants registering their preferences on the system higher this year than last year, but the average number of preferences per applicant is also very high.

According to the Ministry of Education and Training, as of 5 PM today, July 28th, the time when the online registration portal closed, the ministry's general admissions support system recorded a total of 849,544 candidates who had entered their university and college admission preferences, equivalent to 73.2% of the number of candidates registering for the 2025 high school graduation exam.

A high average number of preferences per candidate indicates the candidates' confusion during the application process.

Across the country, there are 7,615,560 applications, meaning each candidate registers for an average of about 9 options.

If universities and colleges continue to collect fees according to the current regulations of the Ministry of Education and Training (20,000 VND/application), it is estimated that each candidate will have to pay an average of 180,000 VND for application registration. Thus, the total cost of admissions nationwide is estimated at over 152 billion VND.

According to the Ministry of Education and Training's explanation, the increase of 115,892 applicants for university admissions in 2025 is due to some applicants also applying to vocational colleges (this year, 194 colleges are participating in the admissions system). It is known that the Ministry of Education and Training is currently proposing that universities lower their university admission fees, but this information has not yet been officially announced.

However, the number of applicants registering for the aforementioned majors will continue to be updated. Currently, some applicants have submitted their registration information close to the application deadline, so the system is still processing them.

In 2024, 733,000 candidates nationwide submitted their applications for university admission, equivalent to 68.5% of the number of candidates who registered to take the high school graduation exam that year.

The number of candidates who submitted their applications for university admission in 2023 and 2022 was over 660,000 and over 616,000 respectively, accounting for 65.9% and 64.1% of the number of candidates who registered to take the high school graduation exam in the same year.
