On June 12, according to information from the leaders of Can Tho University, the Ministry of Education and Training issued a document agreeing to the policy of converting Can Tho University into Can Tho University.

Accordingly, after agreeing on the policy, the Ministry of Education and Training will submit to the Prime Minister for consideration and decision to change the operating model of Can Tho University to Can Tho University.

Regarding the organizational structure, Can Tho University currently has 6 member schools, including: Polytechnic School, Information Technology and Communication School, Economics School, Agriculture School, Pedagogy School, and Fisheries School. In addition, the school also has 10 faculties, 3 research institutes and Pedagogical Practice High School. The school has also established 2 university branches in Soc Trang and Hau Giang .

In the 2025 school year, Can Tho University plans to enroll 10,060 students, with 109 regular university training programs (89 general programs, 2 advanced programs, 13 high-quality programs). Of which, there are 8 new majors: Information systems (high-quality programs), preschool education, natural science pedagogy, automotive engineering, computer engineering (semiconductor circuit design), biomedical engineering, journalism, and tourism.

For postgraduate training, the school is training master's and doctoral degrees, with a target of over 1,500 students for the 2025-2026 school year.
