On August 12, the Russian Defense Ministry announced that Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu inspected units of the Northern Fleet stationed in the remote Arctic and experienced flying over the Novaya Zemlya nuclear test site.
On the Telegram app, the Russian Defense Ministry said that a squadron of Russian warships had set sail to carry out a mission in the Arctic region of the Arctic Ocean. The post read: "The Minister of Defense of the Russian Federation, Army General Sergei Shoigu, inspected the garrisons in the remote Arctic.

The head of the Russian military inspected the organization of official activities and the fulfillment of tasks by special forces and units deployed on the Novaya Zemlya archipelago, including readiness for action to protect important facilities.
The Russian Defense Ministry added that Mr. Shoigu also inspected social infrastructure, such as schools and kindergartens, on Novaya Zemlya and flew over Russia's nuclear test site in Novaya Zemlya with Alexey Likhachev, head of Russia's state atomic energy corporation - Rosatom.
