At the meeting, Minister Dang Quoc Khanh and Ambassador Miguel Rodrigues Melo shared that Vietnam and Colombia have many similarities in terms of development level, and both aim to ensure a green, clean, and healthy living environment for the people, as well as actively contribute to the global common efforts in environmental protection and climate change response.
The two sides discussed the content of the Vietnamese delegation's departure to Colombia to attend the Partnership for Green Growth and the Global Goals 2030 (P4G) Summit in Bogota city.
Minister Dang Quoc Khanh said that, as assigned by the Prime Minister, the Minister of Natural Resources and Environment will be the Head of the Delegation to the Conference with representatives from the Ministries of Natural Resources and Environment, Foreign Affairs, Planning and Investment. Minister Dang Quoc Khanh highly appreciated Colombia's role as Chair of the P4G High-Level Forum for the period 2023-2025 and the successful organization of the P4G Summit in Bogota once again affirmed Colombia's important role in the Forum.
As one of the seven founding countries of the P4G High-Level Forum, over the years, Vietnam has actively implemented partnership cooperation activities with other member countries of P4G to promote the agenda, vision and mission of being the only public-private green growth forum in the world to realize global goals on sustainable development, green transformation and climate change response.
With the desire to contribute more to the Forum, Vietnam has proposed to take on the role of P4G Chair for the 2025-2027 period and host the P4G Summit in 2025. This time, in Bogota, Colombia, the transfer of the role of P4G Chair for the 2025-2027 period to Vietnam will be officially announced.
On this occasion, Minister Dang Quoc Khanh sincerely thanked the Colombian Government and partner countries for their trust and support in enabling Vietnam to demonstrate greater responsibility and contribution to the Forum. At the same time, he hoped that Colombia would continue to share its experiences and support Vietnam in its role as Chair of P4G and host the Summit in 2025.
Currently, the Vietnamese Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment has not had any cooperative activities with the Ministry of Environment and Sustainable Development as well as other ministries and sectors of Colombia. On the occasion of attending the Conference in Bogota, Minister Dang Quoc Khanh hopes to meet the Minister of Environment and Sustainable Development of Colombia to discuss and promote cooperation, especially in areas of mutual interest to both countries such as implementing environmental protection policies, managing and sustainably using renewable natural resources to respond to climate change.
Ambassador Miguel Rodrigues Melo said he would support the Vietnamese delegation's successful visit to P4G and also act as a bridge to connect Vietnamese and Colombian agencies to meet, discuss and build more sustainable cooperation programs in the future.
