Circulating the Vietnamese translation of the 'Document for the Future', contributing to promoting multilingualism at the United Nations

Ambassador Do Hung Viet, Head of the Vietnamese Delegation to the United Nations, presented the Vietnamese translation to the President of the United Nations General Assembly.

On July 17, at the United Nations Headquarters in New York, an event promoting “Multilingualism in Action” was held, chaired by President of the 79th General Assembly Philemon Yang, with the participation of Vice President of the European Parliament and many Ambassadors, Heads of Delegations and representatives of United Nations member states.

At the ceremony, Ambassador Do Hung Viet, Head of the Permanent Delegation of Vietnam to the United Nations, presented the Vietnamese translation of the “Pact for the Future” to the President of the United Nations General Assembly.

The Document for the Future was adopted by global leaders at the Future Summit on September 22, 2024 in New York, setting out a vision and direction for cooperation in many important areas to accelerate the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), strengthen the multilateral system and enhance the role and effectiveness of the United Nations.

Vietnamese and other language translations of the Document for the Future will be posted on the official website of the United Nations.

Speaking at the event, Mr. Philemon Yang affirmed that promoting multilingualism in the activities of the United Nations is one of the priorities of the 79th General Assembly, highly appreciating the countries that shared the translation of the Document for the Future into 33 languages (in addition to the 6 official languages of the United Nations), including Vietnamese.

The President of the General Assembly stressed that translations help more than 3.5 billion people worldwide to access and participate in promoting the implementation of this important document.

During July 4-17, in addition to multilateral events at the United Nations, Ambassador Do Hung Viet continued to meet with UN Deputy Secretary-General Amina J. Mohammed, Under-Secretary-General for Strategic Management, Policy and Implementation Catherine Pollard, Under-Secretary-General for Legal Affairs Elinor Hammarskjold, Under-Secretary-General and Executive Secretary of the Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) Armida Alisjahbana in a series of activities to meet with UN leaders after presenting his credentials.

At the meetings, Ambassador Do Hung Viet affirmed Vietnam's strong commitment to multilateralism and the United Nations agenda, especially processes and initiatives to promote peace, sustainable development and improve the effectiveness of responses to global challenges.
