At the press conference to inform about the preparation and organization of the 1st Government Party Congress, term 2025-2030, Minister of Education and Training Nguyen Kim Son shared about the achievements of the education sector in the past term.
Focus on fundamental and comprehensive innovation of education
According to the minister, over the past 5 years, the industry has implemented the directive spirit of the 13th Party Congress Resolution on continuing to fundamentally and comprehensively innovate education and training.
With the view that education and training are strategic breakthroughs and top national policies, human development, human resource training and talent nurturing play a major role in serving the cause of industrialization, modernization and development of the country.
The Minister said that with great efforts, the entire industry has increased dramatically in scale, including the number of learners, number of educational facilities, learning opportunities, teaching staff, infrastructure system, etc.
This is both the result of natural population growth and increased demand for education, and the result of universalizing and mobilizing children to go to school from preschool to other levels. Completing the universalization goal for 5-year-old preschool and universalization to lower secondary school.
The existing teaching staff is 1.6 million teachers; the quality has also been continuously improved. The increase in learning opportunities and lifelong learning of the people has also promoted the scale of the entire education and training system.
At the general education level, the new general education program of 2018 has been completed. From 2018 to 2025, from grade 1 to grade 12, the new general education program has been implemented. A strong shift from knowledge-providing education to developing learners' capacity has been made, achieving important goals in implementing the new general education program.
For excellent student competitions, especially in the international Olympic competitions for 5 years, the country has always been in the top 10 countries with the best exam results worldwide . There are teams and groups that compete in subjects that are even in the top 5 or top 3 countries with the best exam results worldwide. Excellent student competitions are increasingly innovative.
This shows the efforts and abilities of Vietnamese students demonstrated in international arenas.
Optimistic about the future of education
Regarding higher education, the Minister said that many schools have appeared in prestigious ranking groups in the world. There have been many new training programs, new fields, especially in engineering technology with the student enrollment rate reaching over 30%. The training quality, teaching staff, and facilities of universities have also increased.
Non-public schools have also gradually asserted their position and have increasingly contributed. Some schools have also appeared in the rankings.
Regarding the development of the teaching staff, Mr. Son said that by paying attention to policies for teachers, teachers will feel more secure, more excited and more committed to their profession. Candidates for the high-level pedagogical majors and the entrance scores to pedagogical schools have never been among the highest, showing optimism about the future of education.
At the same time, many policy mechanisms and institutions have been improved. Typically, the Law on Teachers has been passed by the National Assembly, developing the teaching staff; other laws such as the Law on Higher Education, the Law on Vocational Education, and the Law on Education are being submitted to the National Assembly for consideration; the issue of digital transformation...
With Resolution 71 of the Politburo on breakthroughs in education development, Mr. Son expects the road ahead to continue to have very profound innovations, promising to continue to have even greater results for the education sector.
Many major social security policies are implemented.
Regarding social security policies in the past term, Minister of Health Dao Hong Lan said that social security policies are policies for people, taking people as the center, linking economic growth, implementing social justice, and implemented over many terms and many years.
In recent times, many unprecedented policies have been implemented, especially due to the tense situation of the COVID-19 pandemic, natural disasters and floods that have greatly impacted people. Accordingly, over 95 million people are covered by health insurance with wider coverage. The rate of people receiving regular subsidies each year is 4.5 million people and 1.5 million people receive emergency subsidies. The rate of poor households has decreased, this year it has decreased by 1%, completing the millennium goal of sustainable poverty reduction...
The removal of temporary and dilapidated houses was completed 5 years and 4 months ahead of schedule with 334,234 houses, with a total cost of nearly 50,000 billion VND. However, given the country's natural disasters and storms, we have determined that this is an initial result that this program needs to be implemented regularly and continuously to help people secure their homes and stabilize their lives.
