Ministry of Health handles counterfeit drugs, recalls three violating products

The Department of Traditional Medicine Management (Ministry of Health) has sent an official dispatch to the Department of Health of provinces and cities across the country regarding the handling of counterfeit drugs circulating on the market.

Accordingly, three massage oil products were identified as counterfeit, including: Su Tong massage oil (registration number V367-H12-10V), Chanh Dai rheumatism oil (registration number V1624-H12-10), and Chanh Dai rheumatism oil (registration number V131-H12-10).

All three of these products have packaging stating the place of manufacture as “Chanh Dai Traditional Medicine Manufacturing Facility”.

To ensure safety for users, the Department of Traditional Medicine and Pharmacy Management requests that local Departments of Health and industry health agencies promptly notify drug businesses and users.

At the same time, information about the three types of fake oil mentioned above needs to be publicly posted on the electronic information portals of the Departments of Health so that people can promptly recognize and avoid them.

In a development related to pharmaceutical management, Deputy Director of the Drug Administration of Vietnam Nguyen Thanh Lam signed a decision to revoke the circulation registration certificates in Vietnam for three drugs: Tadalafil, Odistad and Vacobufen.

These are drugs that relieve pain, treat erectile dysfunction and obesity. The recall was carried out at the voluntary request of the registered establishments. Batches of drugs manufactured before June 3, 2025 are still allowed to circulate until the expiry date.

Specifically, the drug Tadalafil 20mg (registration number 893110457024, formerly VD-31364-18) is registered and manufactured by Meyer-BPC Joint Venture Company in Ben Tre . This is a popular drug in the treatment of erectile dysfunction and male physiological problems.

Odistad 120 (Orlistat 120mg, registration number 893100515124, formerly VD-21535-14) is registered by Stellapharm Joint Venture Company Limited in Ho Chi Minh City and manufactured at Binh Duong branch. The drug is effective in treating obesity and preventing weight gain in adults.

Vacobufen 400 (Ibuprofen 400mg, registration number 893100032324) is registered and manufactured by Vacopharm Pharmaceutical Joint Stock Company in Long An. This product is used for temporary pain relief and fever reduction.

The Drug Administration of Vietnam requires drug registration and production establishments to be responsible for monitoring and ensuring the quality, effectiveness and safety of products during circulation on the market.

Not only in the pharmaceutical sector, the Ministry of Health is also tightening the management of cosmetics. On May 29 alone, the Drug Administration of Vietnam issued a decision to revoke 294 imported cosmetic product declaration receipts, including items such as sunscreen, facial cleanser and shower gel.

Notably, the Ministry of Health has also revoked the "Good Manufacturing Practice for Cosmetics" (GMP) Certificate of EBC Dong Nai Medical Factory Joint Stock Company - the cosmetics manufacturing unit for VB Group Company, owned by singer Doan Di Bang's husband and promoted by the singer herself.

Previously, authorities discovered a product sample in a batch of Adaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser 125ml bottles that violated regulations, forcing it to suspend circulation and recall nationwide.
