Boeing plans to invest in aviation equipment supply chain in Vietnam

VnExpressVnExpress28/05/2023

Boeing's Vice President said the company will invest in developing a supply chain for aviation parts and equipment in Vietnam.

This information was announced by Mr. Steve Biegun, Senior Vice President of Boeing Corporation, while working with Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Hong Dien, on the sidelines of the APEC Trade and Indo-Pacific Economic Cooperation (IPEF) Ministerial Meeting in the US, on May 26 (local time).

Boeing has opened a representative office in Vietnam since 2021. Mr. Steve Biegun said that in the coming time, in the Vietnamese market, the company will strengthen cooperation with Vietnamese airlines. Cooperation also takes place in some specific areas such as helicopters, transportation and investment in developing the supply chain of aviation spare parts and equipment.

Currently, some suppliers in Vietnam are supporting the production of some components of Boeing commercial aircraft, such as components, aircraft interiors and composite materials, but mainly small components with low added value. Enterprises participating in the aerospace supply chain mainly come from the FDI sector with capital from the US, Japan and South Korea.

Therefore, the Minister of Industry and Trade suggested that Boeing accelerate the development of suppliers in Vietnam; build specific connection and support projects such as surveys, sending experts to train human resources, and transferring technology when businesses have met all the conditions.

He said that Vietnam has now formed corporations with mechanical engineering capabilities that can become potential partners of Boeing in the future.

Therefore, Minister Dien said that the Ministry of Industry and Trade is ready to coordinate with strategic partners such as Boeing in designing a favorable cooperation framework and sustainable development of the aviation support industry in Vietnam. This will help Vietnamese suppliers gradually participate in Boeing's global value chain and help the company soon realize its strategic goals.

Boeing began operating in Vietnam in 1995. This enterprise has made many contributions to the domestic aviation industry such as providing technical support to Vietnam in defense and commercial aviation services, and supporting Vietnam Airlines in obtaining a license for non-stop flights from Ho Chi Minh City to San Francisco (USA).
