Dune is one of Denis Villeneuve's most ambitious and epic sci-fi projects. He gives the audience a guide to "watch" this film correctly: "It's very important - it's not a sequel, it's a second part. There are differences. I want the film to start right where we left off. There's no time jump. I want everything to continue in parallel with the first part," he shared in Vanity Fair recently.
In the first film, adapted from the science fiction novel of the same name by Frank Herbert, Timothée Chalamet's character Paul Atreides, after his family was brutally murdered by the Harkonnens, he and his mother, Lady Jessica, played by Rebecca Ferguson, joined the Fremen on the sandy planet Arrakis. This is where the Atreides family received orders from the Emperor to rule and at the same time serve as the family's graveyard. And as revealed by Denis Villeneuve himself, Paul Atreides will ride a sandworm, a giant creature and god of the Fremen, to become part of them.

At this point, Zendaya's character Chani has become a warrior of the Fremen, an indigenous tribe on Arrakis who have risen up in fierce resistance as their planet's medicinal herbs are brutally exploited. In the first part, Paul Atreides frequently dreams of Chani, a strange girl, calling for help as her tribe struggles against resource invaders.
The Dune brand exploits human survival in extremely harsh conditions, with depleted resources, instead of telling a story of humans living in harmony with nature. That story is also cleverly interwoven by Denis Villeneuve with themes of hatred, greed, political struggles, national love...

For the Harkonnens had long held control of Arrakis, until the Atreides took over the planet by order of the Emperor. Angry and humiliated, the Harkonnens sent scouting parties and large warships to Arakkis to destroy their rivals, leading to the massacre on Arrakis and the exile of Paul and his mother.
In part 2, the power of the Harkonnen family continues to be consolidated, with the appearance of a new character. At this time, the health of Baron Harkonnen, the head of the Harkonnen family, has declined, so he needs an heir. There are two characters who will represent the inheritance of what the Baron left: the murderer Feyd-Rautha played by Austin Butler and his nephew Glossu Rabban played by actor Dave Bautista. However, there is a bad relationship between these two, and only one will be chosen to rule.
The first Dune film grossed a total of $402 million in global ticket sales, according to Box Office Mojo, making it one of the highest-grossing films during the pandemic. The film received 10 Oscar nominations in the 2022 season, winning six, as well as a host of other film awards. Dune: Part Two is scheduled to hit theaters on November 3 this year.
