On the occasion of attending the 78th High-level General Debate of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, USA, on the afternoon of September 20 (local time), Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh met with Thai Prime Minister Sretta Thavisin.
The Prime Minister warmly congratulated Mr. Sretta Thavisin on becoming the 30th Prime Minister of Thailand and respectfully invited the Thai Prime Minister to visit Vietnam soon. Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh affirmed that Thailand is an important and reliable partner of Vietnam in the region and expressed his joy at the development of bilateral relations in the context of the 10th anniversary of the establishment of the Vietnam-Thailand Strategic Partnership.
To continue to strongly promote the cooperative relationship between the two countries in the coming time, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh pointed out four key areas that the two sides need to promote, namely: effectively coordinating the implementation of the Action Program to implement the Enhanced Strategic Partnership for the 2022-2027 period; increasing market opening and creating more favorable conditions for businesses of both sides, striving to soon achieve a trade turnover of 25 billion USD in a balanced and mutually beneficial direction; strengthening cooperation in education - training, tourism, and people-to-people exchange; and continuing close cooperation in multilateral mechanisms, especially ASEAN.
Thai Prime Minister Sretta Thavisin sincerely thanked Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and the leaders of the Party and State of Vietnam for their congratulations. The Thai Prime Minister agreed with Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh's opinions and proposals; wished to further strengthen cooperation with Vietnam in trade, investment, tourism, infrastructure and local connectivity, and suggested that Vietnam consider opening more direct flights to Thailand.
The two sides agreed to jointly implement cooperation focuses to promote the Vietnam-Thailand Strategic Partnership to continue to deepen, become more effective and practical.
