Lang Son Charity Group was established in 2014. Since then, the group has regularly cooked charity meals to support poor patients being treated at 4 medical facilities (Provincial General Hospital; Provincial Rehabilitation Hospital; Lang Son Lung Hospital and Cao Loc Regional Medical Center). Accordingly, on the 13th and 27th of the lunar calendar every month, members of the group gather together to prepare about 800 free meals to deliver to poor patients.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Ha, Dong Kinh Ward said: I have had kidney disease for two years and currently have to undergo dialysis four times a week at the Provincial General Hospital. I am a poor single parent with financial difficulties, so every time I am hospitalized for treatment, I am given a card to receive free meals and porridge supported by organizations and benefactors. To me, the meals and porridge are truly precious and precious gifts.
In addition, the group also has a "charity porridge pot" model deployed at Cao Loc Regional Medical Center from 2019 to present. Regularly 4 mornings a week, members organize to cook porridge to give free to poor patients at the center.
Ms. Tran Bich Hoa, Head of Lang Son Charity Group, said: In order to have resources to implement the "charity rice" and "charity porridge" meals, in addition to the contributions of the group members, we also received support from benefactors inside and outside the province. From 2024 to now, the group has supported more than 16,000 meals for poor patients (each meal worth 25,000 VND). Thereby, we can promptly share difficulties, encourage patients to overcome difficulties and defeat diseases.
Not only Lang Son Charity Group, but the "pot of love porridge" and "charity rice" models have also received positive responses from many organizations and individuals in the province. Doctor Be Thi Bich Ngoc, Deputy Director in charge of Dinh Lap Regional Medical Center, said: From May 2024 to now, many groups and philanthropists have joined hands to implement the "pot of love porridge" model and supported more than 3,000 porridge portions for patients treated at the center with a total value of nearly 50 million VND. Although each porridge portion is not of great material value, it shows the sharing of those who implement it, helping patients have more faith in life, adding more strength to help them quickly recover their health.
It is known that this model has been coordinated by the Provincial Red Cross Society (RCS) since 2008. Up to now, the model has spread to all medical centers and provincial hospitals with nearly 20 organizations and philanthropists joining hands. From 2024 to present, organizations, individuals, and philanthropists have supported nearly 63,000 charity meals and porridges worth more than 1 billion VND. From the beginning of 2025 to present, organizations and individuals have supported nearly 26,000 charity meals and porridges worth over 400 million VND, an increase of more than 100 million VND compared to the same period in 2024.
In order for the model to be effectively implemented, the Provincial Red Cross Association and organizations and benefactors have mobilized resources in many ways, such as: placing charity fund boxes in temples, pagodas, and restaurants; calling on organizations, agencies, and units to support the model; coordinating with clubs, volunteer groups, and temples to directly cook meals, etc. Thanks to such flexible and creative ways, resources for the model have been increasingly expanded and maintained stably. Many individuals and businesses, upon learning about the activity, have voluntarily accompanied the model for a long time, regularly supporting cash, goods, and necessities to maintain the kitchen.
Ms. Nong Bich Thuan, President of the Provincial Red Cross Association, said: The model of "charity porridge pot" and "charity rice" not only provides free meals to help patients reduce their difficulties but also spreads the spirit of charity, arouses community responsibility, and promotes the tradition of "the rich help the poor" of the nation.
In the coming time, the association will continue to coordinate with charitable organizations and individuals to maintain and expand the model, and at the same time have more creative and sustainable fundraising forms to ensure long-term resources for activities.
