Many tourist attractions in Phung Hiep district are becoming ideal destinations for tourists to experience.

Many "green" tourism products

Located about 7km from Tu Sang Bamboo Garden Tourist Area, the Mong Mo Mulberry Garden eco-tourism site in Hamlet 3, Thanh Hoa Commune, has been operating for nearly two years and is gradually becoming an ideal destination for locals and people from neighboring provinces and cities who want to experience picking a fruit that was once thought to be only found in Da Lat.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Hong Mo, owner of the Mong Mo Mulberry Garden tourist destination, shared: “The garden doesn't charge an entrance fee; we mainly focus on providing visitors with experiences. Besides mulberries, the garden also has several other fruit trees such as mangosteen, jackfruit, purple longan, and coconut… which can be enjoyed on the spot. Here, visitors can also experience rowing boats to catch snails, picking vegetables, fishing, and enjoying typical dishes of the Mekong Delta.”

The Mong Mo mulberry garden is considered one of the potential ecotourism destinations in Phung Hiep district, as it exploits the agricultural potential to create unique and novel tourism products. Initially, Ms. Mo's tourism model shows promising prospects, meeting the increasingly high demands of tourists.

Embarking on ecotourism with the desire to create a "healing" spot for tourists after stressful hours of studying and working, the An Duong Duong ecotourism resort in Hoa Hung hamlet, Bung Tau town, promises to be an ideal destination and a highlight for Phung Hiep tourism in the near future.

Ms. Le Thi Ut, the owner of the tourist destination, said: “Understanding the needs of many tourists today, who want to find a place where they can experience activities that immerse themselves in nature such as fishing, catching snails and frogs, picking fruit themselves… while also relaxing to regain positive energy after tiring work hours, I invested in eco-tourism and resort development since 2023. Because some facilities such as dining areas, resting areas, and landscape features are still under construction, the tourist destination will officially open and welcome guests around the beginning of 2025.”

The An Duong Duong eco-tourism resort is currently being developed on approximately 30 acres of land belonging to Ms. Ut's family. Here, visitors can immerse themselves in nature with an orchard of over 10,000 fruit trees of various kinds such as mangoes, guavas, coconuts, jackfruit, and bananas. They can also experience being a farmer by catching frogs and chickens, fishing, and preparing and enjoying their catch. “In the hustle and bustle of life, many people need trips that help them regain balance in mind and body, and green tourism is becoming a trend. After officially opening, I plan to combine it with additional relaxation services (herbal detoxification baths), and areas for traditional childhood games…,” Ms. Ut shared.

When the potential is unlocked to create new value for tourism.

To concretize Resolution No. 04 of the Provincial Party Committee on the development of industry, agriculture, urban areas, and tourism in Hau Giang province for the period 2021-2025 and beyond, in 2022, Phung Hiep district issued Resolution No. 05 on sustainable agricultural development linked with tourism in the district, for the period 2021-2025, with a vision to 2030.

After 3 years (2022-2024) of implementation, the entire district has 13 tourist attractions (an increase of 3 compared to 2023), attracting nearly 340,000 tourists (a five-fold increase compared to 2020), generating revenue of over 24 billion VND. The total investment in tourism development in the district is over 11.7 billion VND, of which the state budget accounts for 1.7 billion VND, and the investment capital from businesses is over 10 billion VND.

Mr. Pham Van The, Head of the Culture and Information Department of Phung Hiep District, said: “With its potential and natural advantages, the district has coordinated with provincial departments and agencies to plan and implement tourism areas in the locality. The focus is on developing tourism associated with historical and cultural relics, eco-tourism in orchards, and large-scale, concentrated production models for visitors to explore and experience. In conjunction with that, the locality focuses on developing traditional craft villages serving tourism, such as beekeeping in melaleuca forests, OCOP products, and traditional products...”

With timely support from the local authorities and the active participation of the people, Phung Hiep district has created many unique tourism products such as heritage tourism (Can Tho Provincial Party Committee Base historical site, Tay Do Battalion historical site, Vietnam Heritage Tree - Banyan tree, Chay Dap Victory historical site); and ecotourism (Spring Tourist Area, Tu Sang Bamboo Garden tourist area, Mong Mo Mulberry Garden...). In conjunction with exploiting tourism potential, the district has also launched the construction of models of bright, green, clean, and beautiful landscapes, with 45 beautiful roads and 245 model self-governing residential groups, creating highlights to serve visitors experiencing the rural scenery.

“Focusing on developing tourism according to the set direction, we are strengthening the restoration of historical and cultural relics to develop heritage tourism. We are promoting connections and exploiting eco-agricultural tourism, community tourism, and experiential sightseeing… We will continue to implement the Resolutions and plans of the Provincial Party Committee and the Provincial People's Committee on policies supporting investment in tourism development in Hau Giang province in the 2021-2025 period, aiming to encourage economic sectors and households to participate in tourism development,” Mr. The added.

After three years of implementing the resolution on tourism development, Phung Hiep district now has 13 tourist attractions; attracting nearly 340,000 tourists (a five-fold increase compared to 2020); and generating over 24 billion VND in tourism revenue.
