Quang Tri “Energy Picture”: Today's foundation, tomorrow's position

QTO - The Resolution of the 1st Quang Tri Provincial Party Congress, term 2025-2030, identifies energy as one of the four pillars of economic development. Inheriting the outstanding achievements in the term 2020-2025, with new investment attention and determination, Quang Tri is gradually affirming its position as the center of clean energy and renewable energy in the region and the whole country. Today's "energy picture" not only reflects a solid foundation for industrial development but also lights up the aspiration for tomorrow's position, when Quang Tri becomes an important highlight on the national energy map.

Rebound from energy

Despite facing many difficulties, in the 2020-2025 term, the province's industry still achieved an average growth rate of 10.2% per year, the highest in all economic sectors, becoming one of the outstanding achievements of the term.

Contributing to the above achievements, the energy industry plays an important role with 37 renewable energy power plants in operation along with rooftop solar power systems, with a total capacity of nearly 1,500 MW; providing more than 3.6 billion kWh of electricity, an increase of more than 3.5 times compared to 2020, contributing to ensuring energy security and promoting sustainable economic growth.

Phu Trach Commune is one of the province's key energy areas, home to the Quang Trach Power Center with a total capacity of over 4,400 MW and a total investment of over VND 140,000 billion. Projects at the center include: Quang Trach I Thermal Power Plant, expected to generate commercial electricity in 2026; Quang Trach II LNG Thermal Power Plant, expected to generate commercial electricity in 2028-2029; Quang Trach III LNG Thermal Power Plant, expected to generate commercial electricity in 2028-2030. The development of energy projects has had a strong impact on the province's economy and people's lives.

A typical example of this resilience is Phu Trach, from a poor, underdeveloped land, at present, Phu Trach has really flourished, on the way to becoming the energy center of the province. Thousands of local workers and those from neighboring communes have found jobs; the infrastructure system has been invested in step by step, synchronously and modernly, and people's lives have stabilized and developed.

“The Party Committee of Phu Trach commune has identified supporting the successful implementation of energy industry projects in the area as a key task in the past time and in the new term 2025-2030. This is a development opportunity for Phu Trach commune,” said comrade Nguyen Chi Thang, Secretary of the Party Committee of Phu Trach commune.

Not only bringing benefits to local people, the projects at Quang Trach Power Center have created jobs for many workers in neighboring areas. For example, Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Linh, Lien Trung village, Hoa Trach commune, has had a stable job and a good income for the past 3 years when working at Quang Trach Power Center. Thanks to that, Mr. Linh has the conditions to take care of his family and be more attached to his hometown.

The energy industry's momentum continues to open up a new face for many areas in the province. Along with projects at the Quang Trach Power Center, Quang Tri is also a bright spot with wind power projects. The B&T wind farm cluster, Hai Anh Wind Power and dozens of other projects that are operating effectively have affirmed the province's potential and strengths and the success from the determination to turn disadvantages into clean energy sources, contributing to the socio-economic development of the homeland.

Determined to clear the "bottleneck"

Speaking at the 1st Provincial Party Congress, term 2025-2030 on the field of energy industry to soon turn Quang Tri province into a clean energy and renewable energy center of the region, comrade Ho Xuan Hoe, Director of the Department of Industry and Trade, also pointed out the "bottlenecks" in the process of implementing clean energy and renewable energy projects, especially issues related to law, public services, security and order, production protection, etc.

Secretary of the Phu Trach Commune Party Committee Nguyen Chi Thang pointed out difficulties in the locality such as: Site clearance; infrastructure of resettlement areas; procedures on land, environment, approval of component projects are still slow, affecting the overall progress...

With the determination to clear the "bottlenecks", exploit the maximum potential, strengths and turn natural disadvantages into development advantages, aiming for a bright spot in green energy, many solutions have been identified and implemented synchronously by Quang Tri province. These include reviewing, supplementing and adjusting to complete the planning for power source and grid development in the provincial planning; fully updating potential energy projects in accordance with the national power system development planning; promoting and publicizing the planning for the development of energy projects of the province to attract investors.

The province will also focus on perfecting policies and mechanisms to support investment attraction in implementing energy development projects, especially renewable energy; pay attention to supporting investment in synchronous development of energy infrastructure according to planning; prioritize accelerating the progress of key energy projects and strategic transmission systems...

In the 2025-2030 period, the Power Plan VIII and the Adjustment of Power Plan VIII have identified Quang Tri as one of the country's major energy centers, clearly defining the focus on exploiting the advantages of sunlight, wind... This is an opportunity for the province's energy industry to develop rapidly and sustainably with the goal that by 2030, the total capacity of power sources will reach over 8,000 MW, and the total electricity production will reach about 30 billion kWh.

At the conference to prepare for the 10th Session of the 15th National Assembly organized by the Provincial National Assembly Delegation, Comrade Hoang Nam, Permanent Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, discussed mechanisms and policies to remove difficulties for national energy development in the 2026-2030 period, including Quang Tri province.

He recommended that the National Assembly should have more flexible policies in planning and allocating energy targets; delegate the right to plan energy space to localities; boldly implement the policy of investing in power transmission infrastructure in the direction of socialization; establish a competitive mechanism on clean electricity prices; create conditions for the province to effectively promote its strengths in electricity...

With a solid foundation, the right direction and determination to clear all "bottlenecks", Quang Tri is gradually realizing its aspiration to become a clean energy and renewable energy center of the region in the 2025-2030 term, contributing to ensuring national energy security, sustainable development of the country and building an increasingly prosperous homeland, with a more prosperous and happier life for the people.
