(Dan Tri Newspaper) - For several days now, an outbreak of foot-and-mouth disease has occurred in buffalo and cattle herds in Dak Glei district, Kon Tum province, infecting more than 70 animals.
On February 6th, the People's Committee of Dak Glei district, Kon Tum province, announced that from February 1st to 5th, 73 buffaloes and cows belonging to 33 ethnic minority households in the two communes of Dak Nhoong and Xop were infected with foot-and-mouth disease.
Earlier, farmers in these two communes had discovered some buffaloes and cows showing unusual signs such as loss of appetite, difficulty walking, fatigue, and drooling. Immediately afterward, the households reported the situation to the local authorities so that timely measures could be taken.
According to authorities, the foot-and-mouth disease outbreak occurred spontaneously, and the majority of livestock infected in 2024 had not been vaccinated.
In response to the outbreak, the People's Committee of Dak Glei district has directed specialized agencies to strengthen propaganda and guidance for people to implement disease prevention and control measures.
The District People's Committee has provided over 100 liters of chemicals and 1 ton of lime powder for functional forces to spray for disinfection and sterilization of livestock pens and environmental sanitation at the outbreak site as well as surrounding areas.
Veterinary officials have coordinated with the commune People's Committee and local people to carry out sanitation and spray disinfectants in livestock pens. At the same time, the Dak Glei District People's Committee has also directed communes to cordon off affected areas and control the buying, selling, and transportation of animals to prevent the spread of the disease.
