Song with billion views, concert with 50,000 spectators: The whole nation sings patriotic songs together

(Dan Tri) - Years ago, revolutionary music urged our fathers to set out "across the Truong Son range to save the country, with hearts filled with hope for the future." Today, that melody still resonates, but with a new meaning...

On a late August evening in Ho Chi Minh City, as 20,000 spectators were waiting for the "Sao Nhap Ngu" concert to begin, a touching moment suddenly occurred. From somewhere in the crowd, a male voice sang the lyrics " Uncle Ho is marching with us".

Without anyone telling them to, everyone joined in, their voices gradually spreading into a powerful wave of unison. Tens of thousands of people sang out the heroic melodies of a time of war.

Never before have revolutionary epics revived as strongly as they do now. From songs that have stood the test of time to newly released billion-view hits, from small stages to concerts gathering 20,000 to 50,000 people, from singers to audiences, all are connected, blending into one sacred sound of love for the homeland and country.

When all beat to the same rhythm

A year ago, when the concerts Anh trai say hi and Anh trai vu ngan cong gai exploded, selling out tickets from the South to the North, many people commented that Vietnamese audiences today are willing to spend money and rush to buy tickets to enjoy carefully invested programs, gathering young idols with catchy and exciting performances.

Currently, after a series of successful music nights with the theme of homeland and country, the concept of a concert that makes the young generation willing to wait for hours to hunt for tickets, finding every way to get a ticket, must certainly be redefined.

From the concerts To Quoc Trong Tim, Rang Roc Viet Nam, Tu Pham La Nguoi Viet Nam, Viet Nam Trong Toi to the concert Sao Nhap Ngu, these programs all have something in common: They don't need too many stars, they don't need to perform popular hits, they don't need singers wearing gorgeous costumes, or elaborate choreography. All carry a single message: Honoring the glorious past and inspiring patriotism in the youth.

Sharing with Dan Tri reporter, Associate Professor Dr. Bui Hoai Son - Standing Member of the National Assembly's Committee on Culture and Education - commented that since the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification Day until now, a series of revolutionary music and traditional music programs have strongly revived, have had influence, and "made waves" in the country's performance market.

“In the past, many people still thought that only young music and commercial music were powerful enough to create excitement for large-audience concerts, but recent reality has proven the opposite.

There were also audiences who said they came to the concerts out of curiosity, but left with a surge of pride. The audience felt and believed that love for the Fatherland and homeland is not distant but very close and youthful,” Associate Professor Dr. Bui Hoai Son said.

Experts say that the recent music nights such as Fatherland in the Heart, Radiant Vietnam... attracted young people thanks to the harmonious combination of traditional and modern elements. For example, the songs "The Country is Full of Joy", "The Country Calls My Name"... when played with modern arrangements, along with the youthful, energetic voices of the artists, made the audience explode.

Or at the Sao Nhap Ngu concert on August 24 in Ho Chi Minh City, director Dinh Ha Uyen Thu and music director SlimV skillfully created revolutionary music performances with new colors, increasing emotional catalysts and closeness for thousands of audiences - most of whom were Gen Z.

In addition, the program also creatively staged and set designs, contributing to creating a "new look" for songs that are decades old and were once associated with the struggle for national independence.

With this criterion, young audiences experienced a range of emotions, both enjoying watching Hoa Minzy, Trang Phap, and Chi Pu sing the youthful version of Co gai mo duong , and being filled with pride and “goosebumps” when Bui Cong Nam, Jun Pham, Duy Khanh, Huong Giang, Ninh Duong Lan Ngoc… sang Noi vong tay lon in unison.

On the other hand, Vietnamese audiences also share the same spirit of turning towards the Fatherland. The concept of "patriotic fandom" (patriotic audience community) continuously causes a stir online, where young people speak up, spreading the spirit of "regardless of age or region, as long as you have Vietnam in your heart".

Before the concerts, members of the "patriotic fandom" gathered to learn the lyrics of the "national super hits" epics, so that when the music started, tens of thousands of people in the audience would shed tears and sing the immortal songs.

From here, the fiery patriotism once again burned strongly, in the way of the young generation, of citizens of the new era.

Revolutionary music in the hearts of young people

If in the past, the heroic melodies of songs praising the homeland were often sung in political art nights or Youth Union activities, now this music genre has spread strongly, entering every corner of life.

Audiences can enjoy the melody of Winter Coat on the primetime reality show Anh trai vu ngan cong gai, can listen to Tien quan ca with a fresh arrangement at a youth music concert or come across a series of clips with the background music of Duong chung ta di on TikTok, can also witness the cover fever of Rung xanh rang tieng Ta lu spreading from singers to students...

More than half a century ago, songs that encouraged the will to fight and praised the love for the homeland and country contributed greatly to the miracle of victory in our nation's journey to independence. The war has ended, revolutionary music still lives on through the years, continuing its mission of inspiring the younger generation, serving as a bridge between the past and the present.

Nowadays, young singers, musicians, and producers have more creative ways to arrange music, bringing new life to their works. For young audiences, they also have more ways to spread patriotic music on digital platforms. The cooperation of artists and audiences has helped revolutionary music become closer to the lives of the masses.

Not stopping there, songs praising the homeland and country continue to be a rich source of inspiration, creating new songs with a contemporary feel. The source of emotions revolving around the beauty and aspirations of the Vietnamese people has never been exhausted in the souls of the new generation of musicians.

As musician Nguyen Thuy Kha once shared, he never agreed with the idea of "saving revolutionary music" because: "I think there is nothing to save. Because Vietnamese revolutionary music always has its own life and affirms its immortality, remaining forever with the nation."

In recent years, a series of hits with heroic spirit, arousing national spirit such as Vietnam in me, Youth aspiration, Pride of Vietnam, Road to the front... are living proof of the strong vitality and national spirit that always flows in music.

This year, from the fever of the 6 billion-listen song Continue the story of peace, the audience has been able to enjoy more songs of the same genre, such as Vietnam - Proudly following the future, Pain in the midst of peace, What is more beautiful...

According to Associate Professor Dr. Bui Hoai Son, the efforts of Vietnamese musicians in releasing songs in this music genre indicate two important things.

Firstly, it is the artist's sense of responsibility towards the country. Artists do not only create for the audience or the market, but also want to convey their feelings and aspirations to contribute to the Fatherland.

Second, it affirms the power of patriotic music in the current context: When presented in a familiar, modern form, messages about love for the homeland are not dry, but on the contrary, easily spread, strongly inspiring the public.

“Reality also shows that today’s audiences not only listen to music for entertainment, but also seek out music to nurture emotions, to accompany great values. When a song can become the background music for millions of short videos, voluntarily shared by the community, it proves that love for the country still flows silently in everyone’s heart, just waiting to be properly aroused.

And it is the artists, with their creativity, who have done the work of connecting and inspiring effectively," Associate Professor Dr. Bui Hoai Son commented.

According to experts, the strong revival of old revolutionary music and the wave of composing songs about the homeland show a truth: This genre of music always has profound artistic and spiritual values, so even though time passes and society changes, its vitality remains forever.

However, in the context of a rapidly changing and diverse music market, in order for revolutionary music to continue to touch the hearts of audiences, especially the younger generation, singers and musicians need more creative approaches.

“First, it is about renewing the form of expression, bringing a contemporary breath to the song without losing the original soul. Second, it is necessary to combine art with technology, turning the performances into perfect visual and auditory experiences, capable of competing with any other form of entertainment. Third, the indispensable role of young artists - those who will bring revolutionary music closer to their peers, with energy, creativity and new storytelling.

When these elements converge, revolutionary songs will never become old. On the contrary, the songs will continue to exist forever, like a stream throughout history, touching the hearts of listeners, from the previous generation to today's and future generations," Associate Professor Dr. Bui Hoai Son commented.

"The voice of the nation" in the era of growth

In the atmosphere of the whole country looking forward to the 80th anniversary of the August Revolution and National Day September 2, when people flocked to the center of Hanoi to watch the parade, songs about the country resounded loudly, as a sacred proof of national love, reminding us to cherish the sacrifices of our ancestors to have peace and independence like today.

What is more special is that the young generation - the future of the country - is also strongly feeling sacred emotions about their homeland and roots through the connecting thread of music.

Songs that have stood the test of time, or modern hits with billions of views, millions of views... have spread strongly to students. Many young people of Gen Z have shown off their talent in singing revolutionary music, attracting tens of millions of views. Even elementary and preschool children can hum the song Continue the story of peace.

Musician Nguyen Van Chung shared that what makes him happy is that his songs such as Continuing the story of peace, Vietnam - Proudly following the future ... have begun to penetrate the childhood world of many children. "You are the seeds of the future. Your maturity will greatly contribute to the development of the country," the musician confided.

Nguyen Van Chung also commented to Dan Tri reporter that music about the country during wartime and peacetime has different perspectives. Revolutionary music in the past had a heroic breath, expressing the desire for unification and the struggle for national independence. Today, the role of this music genre is to encourage the construction of the homeland, bringing Vietnam up to stand shoulder to shoulder with the world powers.

Associate Professor, Dr. Bui Hoai Son also commented that revolutionary music during the resistance war and music with the theme of homeland and country in peacetime have clear differences in context, inspiration and expression.

In the past, revolutionary music was like a trumpet call, urging generations of fathers and grandfathers to set out "across Truong Son to save the country, with hearts filled with hope for the future". Today, those melodies still resonate, but with new meanings, becoming the rhythm that stirs the national spirit in millions of young hearts, encouraging the young generation to live with ideals, reaching out to the ocean in the new era.

The most important common point is that both music streams aim to foster patriotism, strengthen faith, and arouse the responsibility of each citizen towards the Fatherland. At that time, music in particular and culture in general become unchanging values, always accompanying the nation, regardless of hardship or peace.

“I believe that in today's era of growth, music is the bridge connecting the past with the present, arousing pride, nurturing the desire to contribute and build the country of the young generation.

In other words, music - especially revolutionary music - is not only art, but also "the voice of the nation". In the new era, this music genre continues to be an important element contributing to building identity, affirming Vietnam's soft power, while at the same time arousing patriotism, responsibility and aspiration to rise in every Vietnamese person", Associate Professor Dr. Bui Hoai Son shared.

"The voice of the nation" that Associate Professor Dr. Bui Hoai Son mentioned is present everywhere in Vietnam. For example, in a recent music night, after finishing the song "Sing Forever the Military March" , MC Nguyen Khang held the microphone and shouted on stage: "When the Fatherland calls your name, are you ready?". The artists and 20,000 spectators raised their hands in unison: "Ready!". That is not only the answer but also the promise of today's generation to the future of the country.
