Chinese scientists create wireless charger under the skin

Báo Thanh niênBáo Thanh niên26/11/2023

According to BGR , mentioned in an article published in the journal Science Advances , this prototype subcutaneous wireless charger offers the ability to be both biodegradable and flexible. The article said that although scientists have previously proposed biodegradable power delivery devices, they were unable to generate the energy needed for biomedical applications.

Wireless charger researched by Chinese scientists is biodegradable

That’s why researchers are working to create a new device that is both biodegradable and can generate electricity. Non-biodegradable solutions often require additional surgeries to replace or recharge the battery. By making the entire device strong enough to power medical devices, and biodegradable, they won’t need to rely on additional surgeries to remove it.

The subcutaneous wireless charger developed by Chinese scientists consists of a magnesium coil that passes through a small circuit before entering an energy storage module. This module is made up of zinc-ion hybrid supercapacitors, allowing it to store electrical energy directly instead of relying on chemical energy storage like a standard battery.

It's a fascinating invention that could revolutionize the way we work with biomedical devices. However, the technology is still in its early stages of development, and while the prototype shows promise, there's still a lot of work to do if researchers want to scale it up to make it available to healthcare around the world .

Plus, systems like these could one day change the way we charge wireless devices, including everyday ones like smartphones, tablets, and laptops.
