Earlier this week, 77 Nobel laureates in medicine, chemistry, physics, and economics sent an open letter to the U.S. Senate, urging them not to confirm Robert F. Kennedy Jr. as Secretary of Health and Human Services (HHS).
Kennedy Jr. was once an independent presidential candidate but later withdrew and endorsed Donald Trump. In the letter, the Nobel laureates argued that Kennedy Jr. lacked credibility and experience, and that he opposed many vaccines and drugs that had been deemed effective, as well as reputable agencies within the HHS.

Many other figures nominated by Trump for the upcoming administration are also controversial, most notably former Congressman Matt Gaetz, who withdrew his nomination for Attorney General due to allegations of a relationship with a minor. On December 9th, several of Trump's nominees visited Capitol Hill to meet with Republican senators to share their views before attending confirmation hearings next month.
According to ABC News, with the Republican Party gaining control of the Senate next year with 53 out of 100 seats, Trump's nominations will have a easier time being approved, requiring only 51 votes in favor.
