According to the American Society of Exercise Physiologists (ASEP), one way to test your muscular endurance is to do how many push-ups you can do. While you can do this test on your own, it can be helpful to have a workout partner count for you and monitor your form.
To do a push-up correctly and test your core strength, place your hands flat on the ground, slightly wider than shoulder-width apart. Get into a high plank position with your body in a straight line from head, hips to heels.
Then, bend your elbows at about a 45-degree angle to your torso and lower your body toward the ground. As you lower your body, squeeze your shoulder blades together and push them away to return to the starting position.
In 1 minute, men under 30 years old must do at least 33 push-ups and women must do at least 18. Men between 30 and 39 years old only need to do 27 push-ups, while women must meet the requirement of at least 14 push-ups.
Performing push-ups regularly can also help strengthen bones, prevent bone and muscle injuries, and control blood pressure and blood sugar levels.
