1. Raw materials for making honeycomb charcoal briquettes

3 eggs
55ml fresh milk
70g all-purpose flour
10g bamboo charcoal powder
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 teaspoon lemon juice
56g sugar
50ml cooking oil

2. How to make honeycomb charcoal briquettes

Step 1: Mix the cake flour

First, put flour and charcoal powder in a bowl. Then, crack 3 eggs into another bowl, separate the egg whites and yolks.

Put the egg yolks in a bowl, add cooking oil and beat until dissolved, add fresh milk and mix well. Next, put the egg yolks in a bowl containing flour and charcoal powder, mix well and add vanilla.

For the egg whites, use a mixer to beat for about 20 seconds until foamy, then add lemon juice and beat for about 1 minute.

Next, divide 56g of sugar into 3 equal parts, add them to the egg whites and beat them one by one. Each time, beat for about 40-50 seconds. Do not beat for too long because the eggs will be foamy and when they expand, they will easily break the cake's structure.

Step 2: Mix the dough

Take 1/3 of the beaten egg whites and add them to the bowl of egg yolks and mix well. Next, use a whisk to mix in one direction, stirring from bottom to top to avoid breaking the air bubbles.

Once the mixture is well blended, pour the entire mixture into the bowl of beaten egg whites. Next, use a flat whisk to mix in one direction until the mixture is completely blended. Finally, line a round pan with parchment paper and pour the batter in.

Step 3 : Bake the cake

Preheat oven or air fryer. Pour batter into pan and bake for 30 minutes at 155 degrees Celsius.

You can cover the top of the pan with aluminum foil to prevent the surface from burning. Then, remove the aluminum foil, increase the temperature to 165 degrees Celsius, bake for another 15-20 minutes and it's done.

Step 4: Create shape

After baking, do not take the cake out immediately but let it cool in the oven. Then, take the cake out and make round holes on the surface of the cake.

The most difficult part is to create the round holes in the cake. Use a knife to cut off the convex part of the cake and then use a straw (large) to shape the cake. You should measure carefully so that the holes are balanced and look like honeycomb charcoal.

3. Notes when making honeycomb charcoal briquettes

To get the product as close to the honeycomb charcoal color as possible, some bakers use chocolate or Oreo cookies. But the most popular way is still to use bamboo charcoal powder to create the black color.

Activated charcoal powder is considered by experts to have the effect of purifying and detoxifying the body, reducing symptoms of bloating and diarrhea.

Although it is widely used in the culinary and cosmetic industries, people still need to be careful when using products made from activated charcoal powder.

You need to carefully research products containing activated charcoal powder. The product must have a clear origin, be reputable, and have an expiry date. Avoid overusing activated charcoal.

Depending on the type of mold and your oven, baking time will vary.

To eat delicious honeycomb charcoal briquettes, there must be cheese sauce and salted egg sauce inside.

Making honeycomb charcoal cakes is quite simple, right? This method is similar to making regular sponge cakes. Just adding a little bamboo charcoal powder makes the cake special.

Get in the kitchen and show off your cooking skills by making this dish for your whole family to enjoy! Good luck!
