Officials of a mountainous commune in Nghe An province overcame fierce floods to bring more than 120 people to safety.
On August 25, a reporter from the Border Guard Newspaper posted on Facebook a 29-second clip recording the scene of functional forces in Nhon Mai commune (Nghe An) crossing raging floodwaters to bring people in a remote village to safety.
In the clip, the stream water is rising and flowing, muddy in the heavy rain. On the other side of the stream, a group of people are waiting. Without hesitation, the group of commune officials cross the fast-flowing stream, helping each person across the stream.
After being posted, the clip moved many people, expressing admiration for the spirit of wholehearted devotion to the people in an emergency situation of the group of commune officials.
The leader of Nhon Mai Commune People's Committee confirmed that the above clip was filmed by a local resident on the morning of August 25.
At that time, Nhon Mai commune was experiencing heavy rain due to the impact of storm No. 5 (Kajiki). Water from upstream poured down quickly, threatening the safety of many households in the remote village of Pha Mut. The stream through the village also rose, becoming fierce and extremely dangerous.
In the urgent situation, the commune officials urgently called on people to evacuate, dividing into groups to cross the fierce stream to bring each person to safety.
The group included commune officials, military forces, police and some local residents. Nhon Mai commune leaders said that a total of 27 households with more than 120 people in Pha Mut village had been evacuated to Tan Mai village, the commune's fair area, for shelter.
