This is a project within the project to upgrade and expand a number of bridges and tunnels on National Highway 1 with a total investment of nearly 2,000 billion VND. Particularly, the Deo Ngang road tunnel and more than 2km of access road to the tunnel have a construction value of more than 340 billion VND. The starting point of the project is in Ky Nam ward, Ky Anh town (Ha Tinh) and the ending point is in Quang Dong commune, Quang Trach district ( Quang Binh ).

According to the design, the new tunnel is 555m long and 10.5m wide, and is expected to be completed in 2025. When completed, Deo Ngang tunnel will operate 2 parallel tunnels with a roadbed width of up to 20.5m, providing 4 lanes for motor vehicles and 2 lanes for non-motor vehicles.

At the tunnel construction site in the North of Ky Anh town (Ha Tinh), the construction unit has dug more than 150m deep, and in the South (in Quang Binh province) about 50m. The construction is supported by drilling rigs, tunneling robots, and concrete pumps.

“Working in the tunnel is not affected much by the weather, but the dust and stuffy environment is more so we have to wear thick protective gear, hats, and masks to work continuously,” said Mr. Cuong (from Thanh Hoa ). In the photo, workers, engineers, and many modern tunneling machines, machines, and robots work day and night.

Engineer Lam Van Truong, Construction Team Leader and Technical Officer - Song Da 10 Joint Stock Company, said that the tunnel construction was mobilized by the unit, human resources, machinery, divided into 3 shifts, 4 teams, working continuously to strive to clear the tunnel by mid-July. During the tunnel drilling process, a large pipe will be installed, with the task of vacuuming dust, reducing noise, creating ventilation for construction workers, especially after each blasting and rock drilling.

According to the representative of the Railway Project Management Board (project investor), the Deo Ngang tunnel has quite complex geology, along with the harsh hot weather, which has significantly affected the construction. However, the investor still urges the contractor to stick to the plan and progress.
