At the landslide locations, most of the DT 243 road surface is still covered by rocks and soil.
According to our survey on September 10th on Highway 243 passing through Lan Chau village, Huu Lien commune, there were 8 landslides on a 3km stretch of road. At the locations with landslides, the road surface, which was originally about 4m wide, has now narrowed to just over 1m, just enough for 1 car to pass, greatly affecting the traffic of vehicles.
Lan Chau village currently has over 100 households living there. According to some households in the village, the landslides appeared since the heavy rains at the end of August and have only been temporarily leveled to clear the road, allowing people to pass. Currently, most of the rocks and soil are still lying on the road surface. There are still many places where mud and soil fill the road surface, causing slippery roads, obstructing traffic and posing a potential risk of accidents for people.
Ms. Dang Thi Thuy, a resident at the end of Lan Chau village, shared: Just a few days ago, when I passed by a landslide near my house, I witnessed a large amount of soil from the hill sliding down onto the road. Luckily, no one was passing by at the time, so the incident did not pose a danger to the people. Currently, many people in the village still limit their travel because the landslides have not been completely handled and still pose many potential safety risks.
It is known that DT 243 is the "unique" route for people in Huu Lien and Yen Thinh communes to travel and trade. This is also the only way for people here to travel to Hung Vu and Bac Son communes. Therefore, the daily traffic volume on the route is relatively large. Among them, many cars and trucks carrying passengers and goods regularly pass through this road section. The current landslide greatly affects the traffic and trade needs of people as well as reduces the connectivity between the above areas.
Not only the people in Lan Chau village, many people in Huu Lien commune also hope that the landslide situation on DT 243 will be resolved soon. Mr. Hoang Van Chinh, Lang Ben village, Huu Lien commune said: My family is currently running a homestay service business. The landslide situation not only greatly affects people's travel but also causes tourism business to stagnate. This is one of the strengths of the locality, so I really hope that the authorities and sectors will quickly have solutions to handle the landslide situation.
Mr. Nguyen Quang Hoa, Chairman of the People's Committee of Huu Lien Commune, said: The landslide on Route 243 occurred due to many heavy rains since August 21 as well as the impact of storm No. 5 and the circulation of storm No. 6. In recent days, the People's Committee of the commune has urgently coordinated with relevant units to carry out local handling to temporarily clear the route. However, currently, the landslide points still pose a potential risk of insecurity because a mass of rock and soil may continue to flow down the road. Therefore, the unit has proposed to the Department of Construction to have a solution and the specialized departments and offices of the Department of Construction have reviewed and inspected the level of impact to implement the handling plan. In the coming time, the commune will continue to closely coordinate with units to speed up the progress of implementing the steps to overcome the above landslide points according to the process. Thereby, helping people in the commune as well as neighboring localities to travel safely on the route.
Currently, the weather situation is still complicated with many heavy rains. Therefore, the potential risk of insecurity at landslide locations is increasing. Therefore, we hope that relevant levels, sectors and units will soon handle the landslide locations on DT 243 to ensure people's safety.
