At the meeting, Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Nguyen Van Hung said that the Plan is based on a number of viewpoints: Tourism truly becomes a spearhead economic sector, accounting for an increasingly high proportion in the GDP structure; developing international tourism at the same time as effectively exploiting domestic tourism; effectively promoting national potential and advantages; linking tourism with preserving and promoting heritage values and national cultural identity, digital transformation...

By 2030, Vietnam tourism strives to welcome 35 million international visitors, with a growth rate of 13-15%/year; welcome 160 million domestic visitors, with a growth rate of 4-5%/year. The contribution of tourism to GDP by 2030 will directly contribute 10-11% of GDP; create about 6.5 million jobs, of which about 2.2 million are direct jobs.

Vietnam tourism strives to become a prominent global destination by 2045, among the top tourism developing countries in the Asia- Pacific region; expected to welcome 70 million international visitors, 260 million domestic visitors, total revenue reaching about 7,245 trillion VND; contributing 12-13% of GDP.

Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha said that the Tourism System Planning demonstrates the view that tourism is a comprehensive economic sector, pioneering and promoting green transformation in other sectors...

Along with the market development orientation (domestic and international), Minister Nguyen Van Hung said that the main product lines are sea tourism; regional cultural values; eco-tourism; tourism products associated with economic, cultural, political and social centers...; new types of tourism (tourism combined with medical treatment, health care; agricultural and rural tourism; industrial tourism; sports tourism...);...

The orientation for tourism space development includes 6 regions, 2 growth poles, 8 dynamic areas, 5 tourism corridors, 9 tourism centers and national tourism areas...

Giving feedback on the planning report, experts pointed out many shortcomings such as forecasts on Vietnam's tourism development, especially the growth results in the number of international and domestic visitors in the scenarios along with the speed and growth rate of tourism, which are not very convincing; the feasibility and effectiveness of the inter-regional, inter-provincial and inter-sectoral connection mechanism have not been clearly indicated. Feedback also suggested considering and clarifying the breakthrough, creating a difference in current tourism with the trend of digital transformation and green transformation; the structure of tourism human resources to have a training plan suitable to the needs, avoiding imbalances...

Planning needs to set higher goals

Concluding the meeting, Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha said that the Planning needs to set higher, challenging goals in order to have breakthrough solutions and highlights.

Regarding the organization of tourism space, the Deputy Prime Minister said that it is necessary to expand the tourism connection model of "one road, many destinations" according to regional geography to mutually complementary tourism product chains from mountainous areas to coastal areas, from heritages, cultural and historical relics to natural landscapes, and learn from and refer to international experiences.

The Deputy Prime Minister also suggested directions for developing tourism markets and products; criteria for national tourism centers; indicators for assessing the overall economic efficiency of the tourism industry; forecasting demand and training plans for tourism human resources; promoting digital transformation to provide the best services for tourists, innovating management methods; proposing mechanisms and policies to remove bottlenecks in investment resources, land, finance, inter-sectoral and inter-regional connections, etc.

"The consulting unit needs to fully absorb the comments at the meeting, from regional councils, localities, tourism business associations, social and professional organizations, etc. to complete the tourism system planning with quality, innovation, breakthroughs and aspirations to rise up," said the Deputy Prime Minister.
