A photo exhibition about Vietnam on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the establishment of Vietnam-Germany diplomatic relations is being held at the World Garden in the center of Berlin on July 12-13.

The event is a joint effort of the Department of Fine Arts, Photography and Exhibitions (Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Vietnam) and the Embassy of Vietnam in Germany.

50 photos of Vietnamese people, culture and natural landscapes by Vietnamese authors and German author Götz Peter Reichelt, arranged in the shape of the letter VN, symbolizing the name “Vietnam,” in the outdoor space of the Berlin World Garden.

In 2019, photographer Reichelt donated 1,252 films taken in Vietnam in the 1990s. These films were received, preserved and used by the Vietnamese Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.

According to Mr. Ngo Tuan Phong - Deputy Director of the Department of Fine Arts, Photography and Exhibitions, Head of the Department's delegation to Berlin to organize the exhibition, the 50 photos on display are 50 realistic and vivid slices of a beautiful Vietnam, which has achieved great achievements, developed, integrated and entered a new era - the era of national growth.

He expressed his hope that the exhibition will contribute to further strengthening the friendship and cooperation in culture and art between the two countries; be a bridge and opportunity to help the Vietnamese community in Germany, Germans and those who love Vietnam understand more about the country and people of Vietnam.

Vietnamese Ambassador to Germany Vu Quang Minh highly appreciated the artistic quality, expertise, emotion and aesthetics of this photo series which he considered “wonderful”. The combination of works reflecting the current life of Vietnamese photographers and works through the lens of German photographers about the life and people of Vietnam in the 1990s, a difficult time right after Doi Moi, also when Germany had just been reunified, is extremely special and has deep meaning.

The Ambassador also said that this is a very suitable time to organize a photo exhibition when this year there are many big holidays: Vietnam and Germany celebrate 50 years of diplomatic relations; Vietnam celebrates 80 years of independence and Germany celebrates 35 years of unification.

The photos displayed at the exhibition were carefully reviewed and selected by a panel of experts before being sent to Germany.

The Vietnamese Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism has also decided to donate all the exhibition photos and the display shelves to the Vietnamese Embassy in Germany so that the photo collection can continue to be introduced to more German people during the dense events of this year celebrating many major holidays.

Ambassador Vu Quang Minh was delighted to receive this valuable gift from the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Vietnam.

The Ambassador said that after this exhibition, the photo collection will be used by the Embassy and the Union of Vietnamese Associations in Germany for various events and diplomatic activities in the coming time./.
