Can Tho co-organized the Japan - Mekong Delta Meeting Conference

(Chinhphu.vn) - In order to implement the contents agreed upon by the senior leaders of Vietnam and Japan in the Joint Statement on upgrading the relations between the two countries (November 2023), the People's Committee of Can Tho City coordinated with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Embassy of Japan in Vietnam and the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO) to organize the Japan - Mekong Delta Meeting Conference.

According to the Department of Foreign Affairs of Can Tho City, the conference will be held tomorrow afternoon (August 8) , with the participation of about 300 delegates , including about 150 delegates from Japanese organizations and businesses .

The conference is expected to have the participation and direction of National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man , Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Chi Dung ; leaders of central ministries and branches , agencies, organizations, businesses and leaders of localities : Can Tho, Vinh Long, Tay Ninh, Dong Thap, An Giang, Ca Mau.

On the Japanese side, Chairwoman of the Japan-Vietnam Friendship Parliamentarians' Union, Ms. Obuchi Yuko and a number of Japanese parliamentarians, Japanese Ambassador to Vietnam Ito Naoki , Japanese Consul General in Ho Chi Minh City Ono Masuo ; and representatives of organizations such as JETRO, JICA... leading Japanese corporations and enterprises such as: IHI, Taisei, Acecook Vietnam, Erex, Sojitz, Aeon Vietnam, Japan Airlines, Marubeni, Idemitsu Vietnam, Mitsui... attended the above event.

The focus of the conference is a plenary discussion on strengthening cooperation and connectivity between localities in the Mekong Delta region and Japan, focusing on the following areas: Infrastructure development, energy, high technology, agriculture, labor, tourism ...

In addition, the conference also has a bilateral meeting program and business connection between stakeholders; a program to display and introduce Can Tho products.

This is the first important foreign affairs event of Can Tho City after the merger of administrative boundaries and the implementation of the two-level local government model, promising to open up many opportunities for practical and effective cooperation and connection between localities in the Mekong Delta region and Japan in the coming time.
