According to media reports, rice prices in the Mekong Delta are currently falling sharply, while traders and businesses are buying cautiously, leading to anxiety among farmers. This situation is even more worrying as the Philippines – Vietnam's largest rice consumer market – unexpectedly suspended imports for 60 days starting September 1st, causing export activities to stall. Many export businesses are concerned about the risk of further price drops and uncertain market outlets, so they are limiting purchases and hesitant to stockpile large quantities.
In response to these developments, the Prime Minister has assigned the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment to lead and coordinate with the State Bank of Vietnam and businesses to research appropriate solutions to maintain sustainable production. This includes requiring relevant units to organize the temporary purchase and storage of rice, expand consumption markets to stabilize prices, and provide timely support to farmers.
