According to the Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs, on March 1, 2024, Vietnam and Australia signed a memorandum of understanding on supporting Vietnamese citizens to work in the agricultural sector under the PALM (The Pacific Australia Labour Mobility) program.

According to the agreed plan, Australia expects to accept 1,000 Vietnamese agricultural workers this year. Workers will receive free training before departure. The basic salary (before living expenses) is approximately 3,200 - 4,000 AUD per month (equivalent to about 52.8 - 66 million VND per month).

Vietnam is one of four countries prioritized by the Australian Government to participate early in the PALM Program, along with Thailand, Indonesia, and the Philippines. The program aims to address the labor shortage in Australia's agricultural sector, as well as provide opportunities for Vietnamese workers to gain knowledge, experience, skills, and income.

The Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs is currently coordinating with the Australian Embassy in Vietnam to select up to six businesses to participate in sending Vietnamese workers to Australia. These businesses will be responsible for supporting and providing information about the program, guiding visa application procedures, and organizing free training courses for workers before departure. The list of participating businesses has not yet been announced.

However, recently, some individuals and organizations have exploited information about the PALM program to defraud and illegally collect money from workers, posing a risk to security and order in some localities. In response to this situation, the Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs has sent a letter to provinces and cities, requesting their cooperation to prevent and warn workers.

Workers wishing to go to Australia to work under this program should closely follow official announcements from the Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs to avoid being deceived or scammed; absolutely do not register or pay money to any individual or organization without going through the official process.
