On the morning of July 31, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh , Head of the State Steering Committee for important national projects and works, key to the transport sector, chaired an online conference to review the work of the Steering Committee in the first 6 months of 2025 and review the peak emulation period "500 days and nights of emulation to complete 3,000 km of expressway".
The meeting was connected online from the Government headquarters to 26 provinces and centrally-run cities. Also attending were Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha, Deputy Prime Minister Ho Duc Phoc, Minister of Construction Tran Hong Minh, Minister of Home Affairs Pham Thi Thanh Tra, leaders of ministries, branches, government agencies and localities.
Reporting to the Prime Minister on the construction progress of the Long Thanh International Airport project, Mr. Nguyen Tien Viet, Deputy General Director of Vietnam Airports Corporation (ACV) said: The two main traffic routes connecting to Long Thanh airport are Route 1 (T1) and Route 2 (T2).
Completed the connection road 4 months ahead of schedule
Currently, route T1 opened to traffic on April 30, while route T2 has been technically opened. It is expected that in August 2025, both routes will be officially technically opened to traffic.
In addition to the two routes T1 and T2 invested by the Project Management Board of Vietnam Airports Corporation (ACV), the two existing routes including Ton Duc Thang (25B) and Nguyen Ai Quoc (25C) passing through Nhon Trach district were also assigned by the Dong Nai Provincial People's Committee to accelerate expansion and upgrade to synchronize infrastructure connecting to Long Thanh airport.
Route 25B has been paved with the final layer of asphalt, and has installed lighting and traffic lights. Route 25C is also currently accelerating its progress, expected to be handed over in August, 4 months ahead of schedule compared to the original deadline of the end of 2025.
"In the first 6 months of the year, the contractor consortium mobilized about 13,000 engineers, workers, and 3,000 construction equipment to ensure basic completion by the end of 2025 and commercial operation in early 2026. The weather in Long Thanh is in the rainy season, with heavy and frequent rains, causing difficulties in construction. To overcome this, the construction unit mobilized 6 large-capacity pumps to promptly drain water. Every time the rain stops, the project is urgently continued to ensure progress," said Mr. Viet.
Regarding the station, the roof of all 3 wings of the main station has been completed, more than 12,000 m² of glass walls have been installed, and the entire glass wall is expected to be completed by the end of August. The central area of the station has completed the first floor waterproofing layer. The remaining finishing items are being urgently constructed and are expected to be completed in September 2025.
Regarding the passenger pick-up and drop-off system, 12/32 main pillars have been completed. The tubes are being gathered at the construction site, with the goal of installing 36/64 tubes by December 31. The installation of the baggage conveyor system is also being implemented, the support for the conveyor belt is about 50% complete, 30% installed and construction is continuing.
Long Thanh Airport is being accelerated to reach the finish line by the end of this year.
Welcoming the first flight on December 19
"On December 19, on the occasion of the simultaneous inauguration of many major infrastructure projects across the country, Long Thanh airport will welcome the first flight from Hanoi to Long Thanh International Airport. The plane will roll into the completed terminal via a telescopic system, completing the inauguration procedures for the first phase of the project," informed the Deputy General Director of ACV.
Vietnam Airports Corporation also proposed that currently, connecting traffic route No. 1 does not have a connecting road from the expressway, causing unsafety and affecting the urban beauty. Therefore, ACV proposed that Dong Nai province soon complete the connecting road to ensure traffic and landscape in the area. At the same time, Dong Nai should also soon add about 500,000m3 of fill to serve the construction of the runway and speed up the completion of the repair of Dong Nai bridge and Tan Van intersection to ensure the circulation of goods and human resources serving the construction of the airport.
"In general, the Long Thanh International Airport project is being constructed on schedule according to the direction of the Government and the Prime Minister," Mr. Nguyen Tien Viet reported.
Concluding the meeting, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh requested: To basically complete the Long Thanh International Airport project in 2025, the Ministry of Finance directed ACV and relevant agencies and units to review the overall project progress, supplement human resources, equipment, construction teams, organize "3 shifts, 4 crews" construction to compensate for the slow progress; strictly control quality, labor safety, organize construction reasonably and scientifically.
Currently, basically the vertical and horizontal expressways across the country have been formed or are under construction, expected to be completed in 2025 and 2026. To maximize investment efficiency, facilitate people and businesses, and promote socio-economic development where the projects pass through, the Ministry of Construction and localities review the connecting traffic system to ensure the most convenient connection of expressways with economic centers, railway stations, seaports, airports, etc.
