There are online contests where the more votes a participant gets, the higher their chances of winning. That’s why many people ask their friends and acquaintances on social media to vote for them or their children.

Taking advantage of this, the subjects tried to insert fake links, hack into a personal account and send voting invitations to hundreds of other accounts who were friends and acquaintances of the victim. If anyone accepted the request to participate in the vote, their account continued to be hacked or used for fraud.

After hacking, the subjects studied the messenger messages, saw how the account owner usually sent messages, then impersonated the account owner to send messages to their friends and relatives to borrow money for various reasons and appropriate property.

Not stopping there, the subjects also take advantage of the urgent need to recover accounts. They text phone numbers, or comment on personal Facebook messages to continue the scam. If the gullible user contacts the phone number they provide, or sends identification documents... they will be scammed once again.

From the above methods, the leader of the Department of Cyber Security and High-Tech Crime Prevention, Hanoi City Police recommends that social network users: When receiving a request from a social network account, it is necessary to verify the information by meeting in person, calling the phone number saved in the contact list, not checking through social network applications.

Never enter personal information into strange links. If you accidentally enter it and feel something is wrong, you should immediately change your password or lock your account, bank card...

When using social networks, you should regularly check and update security features, and should not share personal information on social networks.
