Majestic landscape on the North-South expressway

The North-South Expressway has been creating an important driving force to help localities open up new economic and social development spaces in the area; forming many urban areas, industrial parks, services, and tourism areas and is one of the attractive investment attraction products.

The North-South Eastern Expressway is planned from Huu Nghi Border Gate (Lang Son) to Ca Mau City with a length of 2,063 km. The North-South Eastern Expressway Project in the 2017-2020 period has 11 component projects, and the 2021-2025 period has 12 component projects. It is expected to be basically completed in 2025.

The North-South transport corridor plays a very important role as it passes through 32 provinces and cities, affects more than 62% of the population, contributes nearly 66% of the gross domestic product, and connects 4 key economic regions: the North, the Central, the South and the Mekong Delta. Striving to have 3,000 km of expressway nationwide by 2025, and 5,000 km by 2030, this is the goal set by the 13th Party Congress on infrastructure breakthroughs.

Dan Viet would like to introduce some images of expressway component projects that have come into operation and are actively under construction along the entire eastern North-South expressway.

The North-South Expressway component project, Mai Son - National Highway 45 section, has a total length of 63.37 km (14.35 km through Ninh Binh province; 49.02 km through Thanh Hoa province), with a total investment of more than 12,000 billion VND. The Mai Son – National Highway 45 expressway project in its complete phase is built on a scale of 6 lanes, 32.25 m roadbed, achieving a design speed of 120 km/h (currently the permitted speed is 90 km/h); the investment phase will build 4 limited lanes, 17 m roadbed, achieving a design speed of 80 km/h. The North-South Expressway component project, National Highway 45 - Nghi Son section, has a route length of 43.28 km, passing through Thanh Hoa province. The project has a total investment of more than VND 5,534 billion, started construction in September 2021, and will be put into temporary operation from September 1, 2023. In the phased phase, the project has a scale of 4 lanes, with a design speed of 80 km/h. In the completed phase, the project has 6 lanes, with a design speed of 100-120 km/h. The North-South Expressway component project, Nghi Son - Dien Chau section, has a route length of 50 km, passing through Thanh Hoa (6.5 km) and Nghe An (43.5 km). The project has a total investment of VND 7,293 billion, started construction in July 2021, and will be put into temporary operation from September 1, 2023. At the inauguration ceremony of this project, Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha said that in the context of limited budget resources, the Party and State have selected a number of economic corridors for infrastructure investment, in order to spread development, including the North-South Expressway. This is the backbone and lifeline of the country and connects with other types of transport, thereby promoting economic development in the regions and provinces where the project passes. The North-South Expressway component project, Ham Nghi - Vung Ang section passing through Ha Tinh province, is 53.4 km long and is being built under the BOT form with a total investment of VND6,707 billion. Currently, contractors are speeding up to complete the project on schedule. North-South expressway component project La Son – Hoa Lien (Hoa Lien – Tuy Loan section). Some sections of this project have been completed in Hoa Bac district, Da Nang. The Hoa Lien – Tuy Loan expressway section has a total length of 11.5 km located in Da Nang city. It is a component of the North-South expressway project in the east connecting with the Da Nang – Quang Ngai expressway. The entire La Son – Tuy Loan expressway project has a length of about 65 km, the project investment level is about 3,011 billion VND, from the state budget. The La Son – Hoa Lien Expressway project, along with the Cam Lo – La Son and Da Nang – Quang Ngai Expressways, will contribute to improving the exploitation capacity of the North – South Expressway in general, while ensuring connectivity between localities, ensuring national defense and security in the region and the whole country. Mr. Nguyen Van Tram (residing in Ta Lang village, Hoa Bac commune) hopes that this expressway project will help the local economy develop, there will be more factories and workshops so that people will have more jobs and increase their income.

The Van Phong – Nha Trang expressway project has a total length of over 83 km, starting at Km 285 + 000, the intersection of Co Ma tunnel, Van Tho commune (Van Ninh district), Khanh Hoa; ending at Km 368 + 000, the intersection with National Highway 27C in Dien Tho commune (Dien Khanh district, Khanh Hoa), connecting with the Nha Trang – Cam Lam expressway project. North-South Expressway component project, Can Tho - Ca Mau section , Dan Viet reporter recorded at the section passing through Hau Giang province. The Can Tho - Ca Mau Expressway project is over 110 km long. The total investment is over 27,500 billion VND, started in January 2023, expected to be completed in 2025. However, with the current progress, it is expected that in 2027, two important expressway projects of the Mekong Delta ( Can Tho - Ca Mau project and Chau Doc - Can Tho - Soc Trang project ) can be completed.
